runs choppy before it warms up

I dont know a whole lot about cars. i just bought a 1983 944 a few days ago. When you first start it up the engine runs really choppy but as soon as its warmed up it runs excellent. thought maybe it was the fuel pump but that turned out to be fine. anyone have any ideas?
 
Firstly, Well done on buying your 944![:D]
As your 944 is pre 85.5 you will need to check the aux air regulator. It should be open when the engine is cold. It will colse when the engine gets hotter. It could also be the DME Temperature Sensor or it could be a vacuume leak in one of the pipes between the engine intake and the air flow meter (check for hissing if youhave good ears!).
