Rust around Back Windscreen!!

I have a nearly 12 year old pristine Targa that has sadly developed a rust blister at the bottom of the rear windscreen. Is rust on the rear windscreen a common rust spot? It just seemed to appear!
If you look at the pic I'm guessing that the rear window may have to come out? How is the Targa rear window fixed in?
I have a fully stamped body warranty with Porsche too, i know it's run out now, but i remember reading other people having approached OPC's about this issue on front windscreens. Is it work trying to see if they will do/help with this issue?

Thanks

Graham

Unfortunately this problem is all too common on 993s and 964s. I can't see the exact location from your photo, but it is likely to be worse than it looks once the trim and glass is out, so it is important to have it sorted professionally as soon as possible.

Good luck with Porsche, although why they would pay out on a 10 year warranty after 12 years is beyond me. You never know, so maybe it is worth trying.

Here is a wide shot. It's on the N/S
I'm guessing the rear window on a Targa is completey different to a coupe. Why would it happen just there?

Graham

Very unlikely that Porsche will pay out for the repair. However, for the sake of a phone call and a visit to your local dealer it may be worth a try.

I don't know the Targa very well but my coupe had the front screen corrosion. Plan on spending around the £500 mark.

Unfortunately, it is always worse than it first looks.

Good luck.

As Mark says you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg, there will probably be other bits just waiting to leap out and surprise you.

Porsche did work on my front screen when the car was out of warranty but not by two years. Definitely worth a go though as I have found a bit of gentle persuasion works wonders with them.

Had this problem on my coupe - but on the side pillar - once glass was removed the corrosion was all along the bottom and half way up each side of the frame. Also bank on a new rear screen because it is so easy to damage the seal bonded to the glass.

This is a real pain in the -----, appears to be so common both front and back and seems to affect these cars from their early years right through - and people STILL say the 993 was the best ever, but then they are great to drive, smile time, everytime.
