Rust treatment

Hi all,

I'm delighted to be the new owner of a lovely Tahoe Blue 1990 C2. There are a couple of apparant rusting areas..principally at the base of the headlights. It appears this is quite common and wondered if you all had any recommendations through experience as to what I might do get these sorted out? Do I need new wings?...if so, where would I source them etc.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Alistair

Alistair,

You really want to hope you don't need new wings - you are looking at £600+ EACH just for the panel, never mind prepare and paint too!! Depending on how bad the rust is I'm sure a decent body shop could attempt a repair. Bear in mind that the headlamp bowls are seperate anyway and are available quite cheaply. The problem is caused by the muck and gunge getting caught up underneath the headlight and the damp goes to work in it's own time. The areas at the bottom of the windscreen and rear screen suffer the same - particularly if the screens have been removed in the past. The bits on the scuttle under the wiper spindles also suffer from retained water.

Regards

Dave

Alistair,

Dave's spot on. Just had a new offside wing put on (£670 for the wing from Porsche - no cheaper alternatives either). Unfortunately the wing and headlight bowl had already been badly repaied and the rust was too far gone. Suggest getting it checkout sooner, especially as the wetter weather is upon us.
