rusting inner wheel arches

Hi, I have just noticed some rust patches on the lower inside front edges of wheel arches - presumably where stone chips have damaged the paint. I intend to get it sorted professionally at some point but can't afford to get it done just yet. Can anyone recommend a product that will stop things getting any worse?

Thanks

I'm working on the principle that mine wont get deteriorate further as the stones, etc that get kicked up by the front wheels effectively medium blast the affected area, thus preventing the rust from getting any worse [:D]

Get yourself an aerosol can of clear Waxoyl from Halfords and spray on, I have been doing this for years on vulnerable areas and it works really well. It holds back any areas that already have rust on them. Not sure about spraying over afterwards and any affect with the paint though but would have thought panel wipe will remove it okay.

Andy.

I agree with Andy. Mine is a dark colour and I use dinatrol or waxoyl black. I repaired the stone rash and repainted and use the dinatrol/waxoyl every six months. Rust has never returned.

Mike,
I have the same problem on my car, somebody has resprayed the front wings at some point and not done the return lips correctly. I'm planning to have a lower half respray next year, the body shop recommended liberal applications of grease to the affected areas saying this will hold it at bay. I mentioned waxoil to them having sucessfully used it in the past, however, they said it dries out and do not recommend it!

Good luck,
Phil

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try some POR 15 pint on the rust and spray some Waxoil on the inside of the arches. I will let you know how I get on.

Mike
