Rusty bits!

Following confirmation of my Driving God status on track [;)] (tongue firmly wedged in cheek[:D]), through which the car has performed superbly and endeared itself to me even more, I thought it timely to reward it by finally biting the bullet and getting the minor bubbling at the top of the windscreen under the rubber trim sorted. A mate with a bodyshop has taken it on (mate's rates[;)]) and I popped in today to see how it looked with the windscreen removed.

Thankfully, the corrosion wasn't too bad and after grinding it away, back to bare metal, it will be etch primed before being painted. He is painting the whole roof (bar the sunroof panel, as that was done when I had the sills/wings done - I know, I know...[8|]) and the side gutter trim pieces.

So that should be the last of any corrosion on my car, just a few stone chips on the front that I prefer to think of as a 'patina' or badge of honour ....[8|][:D]

Oh, in the absence of any on track pics, here is a mean & moody one of my car in the garage at Donnington the other day...[:D]

That is very mean & moody [8D]

Well done for sorting the bubbly bits, lucky to have mates like that - let's hope the sunroof panel won't be a different shade of pink when he's finished :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This reminds me I have to have it done as well [&:]

Did they manage to pull the windscreen without breaking it or will it be replaced ?

Mine needs this done as well - only rust on mine also bar a blister around a numberplate light that can be addressed with silver Hammerite.

Imgaine how good it would look in black, or blue, or white, or gold, or yellow, or green, or orange

Doesn't look to bad at all Nick.

Hmm, garage looks familiar though ? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ;) haha

Say Hi to Tony for me.

Mike

PS - for anyone else in the NorthWest - bodyshop can be recommended for paint. They do a good job at a fair price.

Nick

Who is your mate with the body shop as mine also needs attention?! Can you post or email me his details please?

Who did your sills and arches?

Cheers

Sid

PS Keep the photots coming.

They did!

The screen is in pretty good nick (clearly not the original!) and has no milky delamination, hence no need to replace, unless they broke it of course.....[:D]

Well as he's matching the paint to the sunroof panel, I'm fairly hopeful that I'll have a nice even shade of pink all over.....[8|][:D]

D'ya know, you can go right off some people.....[8|][;)]

To be honest, I got my sills and front wings sorted by a classic restoration place in Cheshire as cutting out rusty metal and welding in new isn't his bag - I did offer it to him first, but he is an accident repair business first and foremost as opposed to a restoration business. With the screen, he was pretty confident that with some grinding and treatment it would be fine to etch prime and then respray, ie not welding in new pieces etc.

He is a nice guy and an excellent painter and extremely meticulous with his own cars - has had lots of Porsches over the years inc a 964RS a couple of years ago. Currently owns a 1986 911CS, that is sat in his shop - I've asked him for first refusal.....!

Mike, thought you might recognise it!

Not as bad as I feared, but that bubbling was only going to get worse...[8|]

Should have it back early next week [:)]

It's FAB Nick you get a really clear view of the road ahead [:D]

And fuel consumption is fantastic!!!

Mind you I have to actually get it out of the garage first to do 30mph, so that is the first hurdle to cross.

Update!

Dropped to check on progress and it has all been painted (in the only proper colour for a Turbo eh Fen...?[;)]), yes India Pink/Red and I am very impressed with the finish and match. Winscreen is back in with its new rubber trim and just a final polish this afternoon and I can pick it up in the morning [:)].

I bought a new black plastic cover for the blower etc beneath the windscreen so I'll rip the old, tatty one out tomorrow night and fit the new one - every little helps[;)]!

Just got to try very hard to ignore the touched-in stone chips on the nose now.....[8|]
