rusty nuts (bolts)

Hi

just picked up my new toy this weekend and it drives and looks great.

Only thing that spoils it is all the wheel bolts have rusty tops.

New set looks like £100
I could rub them down and spray with smooth silver hammerite
also seen some covers that clip over the bolt heads (but not the locking nut) -- only issue is they are chrome covers not silver so may look out of place

what have others done (the dealer told me they all do it and buying a new set would lead to the same in a year)

my 2005 boxster 987, which i bought from new had rusty wheel nuts after 6 months, amongst several other problems!!!!!!!!!!!!![sm=spanner5.gif]

I do the same, with aluminium paint. It's a shame that Porsche insist on supplying lovely cars with wheel nuts that rust so easily!

Ditto above, silver aluminium paint for me too.
Buying new ones wont help, they will still corrode

Mine were replaced under warranty and I've just noticed that the security ones are starting to go brown around the edges.

However they have seen six years active service!

JCB..

An opportunity for a decent non rusting after market wheel bolts surely? I know mine have rusted badly too. My 944 S2 wheel nuts were superb, think they were made of something unique, very lightweight.

Yep, mine too were replaced under warranty - I do however seeing somewhere in the forums that a group of owners were looking to 'bulk buy' some from a machining company or suchlike, that would not rust (presumably either s/steel or an alloy).
Seems like a good idea, but I can't seem to relocate the thread!

I use IE on XP and their site works fine for me.
