rusty wheel bolts

for a quality car i am disappointed to be having to change rusty wheel bolts on a two year old car, having spoke to porsche and full new set with locking bolts will be £150.00
any thoughts?
 
I've had the same problem, painted them twice, in the end bought some plastic covers off ebay £9.90, not perfect but better than looking at rusty bolts

No need to do either folks[8|] Save yourself some money - try the following:-


-Take a plastic bottle (ie a small coke bottle works fine) and cut the bottom off

-Then carfully cut the top off until it just fits over the wheel bolt

-Take a can of Silver paint and spray a minute amount of paint down through the bottom of the bottle.

-Inspect - you may need another minute dusting

- Good as new eh[;)]


You will need to repeat this process every time you remove your wheel bolts/nuts - no one likes rusty nuts[:D]
 
might give that a go, i couldnt see the point in buying new ones for the same consequence in a years time, thought there might be some alloy covers on the market?
 
i am resigned to my rusty nuts.all part of the maturation process[:D]

neither I or the car would get any concours prizes any more[8|]
 
How old is your car? I got a new set when the car was just over 1 year old from Reading OPC by just asking for them to be changed when it was in for some other minor warranty work.
 
unfortunatley just out of warranty 1/2 of a month when i brought it, dont know why the original owner never asked ! quite rightly you did, you will need to ask again in a years time !
 
I've just painted mine with the same Hammerite paint that I use for the other problem we all experience...rusty hubs!

It saves any overspray of paint onto wheels although wheelnuts have to be removed to do this....

Alternative is plastic chrome/silver covers but don't know how available these are....

I will ask for more nuts when the time comes, just to make sure I get something from the extended warranty [:D]

Unfortunately a more serious issue is that my wheels are starting to bubble under the paint. After 20k miles and 3 years, and cleaned every few hundred miles, I'm not sure this is right. My Golf alloys took about 5 or 6 years to bubble and 70k miles or so, and I hardly ever cleaned them.

No doubt this warranty request will involve a discsussion or 2 with the dealer.

 
For a so called premium marque, Porsche's quality control is quite appauling. Rusty wheel bolts and peeling laquer on alloys is completely unacceptable. Frankly, it's something you might expect on an economy brand like a Ford, Hyundai, etc. except you don't.

All four of my Turbo 11 alloys have peeled and my wheel nuts have been repainted several times. I have not seen this on any other brand in our family - VW, BMW, Honda, Land Rover or Peugeot. (And two of these are over 10 years old.) When even Peugeot and third world brands can get this right surely Porsche can too?

If everyone complained to the OPCs and publicised the fact that Porsche can't make a wheel bolt that doesn't rust then perhaps things might change!
 
Mate i'm with you on this, sometimes consumer power is the best thing, if everyone with a porsche complained rather than accepted the un-characteristic poor quality then they would do something about it .

we need to set up "the peoples federation against poor quality wheels and bolts FRONT"

or we can continue to refurbish and repaint our wheels and nuts and bolts, sorry i know im a NEW porsche owner but am i asking too much?????

This is the easiest solution, but i use stainless steel touch up spray supplied by Ashworths http://www.ashworth.eu.com/products not cheap but eliminates the rust issues?? and looks the part[;)]
