rvt used to seal rear balance shaft housing

Been tracing down oil leaks, sense I removed the metal undertray to do the level sender which iv still not done yet iv noticing a few drops off oil.

First seems to be from new turbo drain line. Which considering it don't mount by the drain should off been less likely to leak.

there's another on the other side which looked to be cam cork gastic do I nip that up a little more, but now it's the rear off the balance shaft plug.

What's people's thoughts on rvt used on the outside? Save the balance shaft reseal and do with sump and rod bearings later on.


 
I used black sealant on the rear end of both balance shafts. Stopped the leak and very easy compared to the alternative!
 
I would guess it is probably black RTV :).

Loctite do a certain numbered RTV which so far has done a sterling job of sealing my sump on the 205. Dirko is also meant to be half decent for sealing external leaks (although I have yet to use it).
 
Rennlist it seem this is the recommended type

how long do I need to leave by I run the car. Would be nice to stick some on when it's on the ramp in the shop. However the car will need to be run to remove from ramp and to check there work. From what I can find it needs 24 hours to fully cure, guess that means I got to get under the car at home.

 
This sounds similar to a slight leak I have, does anyone have a picture of the rear housing area at all?
 
Iv covered it grey loctite rtv. The cover was free and could be wiggled with my finger.

I put the rtv on my finger and reached in and made a lovely mess, gave it 30 mind then applied another coat.

Going to leave for 24 hours then Check, push the car to another parking spot which I thought be safer, ended up curbing the wheel as the steering lock came on [:mad:]
