Why is the car sold as seen?

Im after a turbo, but that is quite cheap and looks in good order.

I'm aiming to look at it in the morning. Meant to call about it today but got distracted! Now if everyone else will just ignore this thread I'd appreciate it![;)]

Well I might let you buy mine...![;)]

Nick,

My wife says im a few pennies short of a pound, but in this case shes right.
My budget will stretch as far as about ÂŁ3.5k - your car is far to nice for the likes of me......

Craig2105 - Let us know how it goes. I will give them a call in the afternoon - this allows you first viewing.
I wouldnt want to gusump anyone on here.

On the various forums it sems Henry's no mug and turns away as many cars as he accepts for stock. Equally if he is offering it at this price what did he give for it?
I would be surprised if it turned out to be a rust bucket on its last legs. He has had other 944/968s which have been cheap and have gone very quickly.

Probably perfect, Id say the reason for the price would be intergalatic miles - seems to be a recurring theme in cheaper 944's

Should'nt matter though as long has it has been taken care of!

Only 108,000 miles on the clock (though possibly double that in reality)

944's are not really Henrys marketplace anymore and I suppose he gave much less than that for the trade in and just wants to move it on quickly without doing any pre sales preparation. As a trader he is still bound by the usual sale of goods acts etc no matter how he sells it.

Looks nice [8D]

Why is the mileage likely to be incorrect? that would suggest that mine is also incorrect (which it isn't)

I didn't say 'likely' I said 'possibly' and I didn't mention yours at all [&:][&:][&:]

The Sunday Times had the 944 as one of the most clocked cars out there back in the 80's. They are built so well and last so well that you could wind back 1000's of miles and increase the value drastically (back in the day when they were worth a lot). In 10 minutes I could wind my own S2 back from 190k to 90k and it could easily hold it's own against a genuine 90k car.

My main point is to buy on condition and ignore the odometer (unless it has every single MOT and service invoice back to 1990)

I would have certainly considered this one seriously if it had appeared whilst I was looking, whilst obviously no where near as fast as my Turbo (especially as it is a red one) it still looks a lovely car

Chaps - I saw it and walked away within two minutes of it being out in the sun. As the description says, it is probably better off being hacked on the track and would need some money spent to get it up to the standard I would prefer.

It looked too good to be true, and was - no disrespect to 911 Virgin at all. Always nice to talk to Tom though! Got a lovely 993 Turbo there - one day...

Thanks for the advice and support. The search continues...

Craig2105,

Please can you tell me what put you of the car? Is it the paint?
It might be suitable for me....

Henry's always been good when I've dealt with him, but I can imagine he doesn't suffer fools easily, I do remember once asking him the mileage of a car (I was new to Porsche's at the time) and got a 10 minute rant in response (that was absolutely spot on).

Henry is good entertainment - no one should be a porsche owner without first having a visit to his "farm" - its part of the learning process. When I tried to ask a question related to the C2/C4 difference the reply started something like: "Mark, your hair is rather long...." It went on for many minutes, but eventually got to his point.[:D]

I also like his openness (at least apparent openness) - have you read the description of the white GT3 he currently has? - How different from the way another, more official, dealer has reportedly behaved with respect to a supercar-club owned 911!

Craig2105,

Rav - It has a coat of many colours I'm afraid. There's also a cluster of corrosion under the paint on the offside sill, plus various bits of plastic that must have been off the car then re-fitted poorly. The back end of the car is a markedly different colour to the front on the offside - I didn't get any further than that really. The drivers seat is in poor condition - pretty much ruined. It started up easily enough but it didn't sound too smooth to me, although I have little experience of what they are supposed to be like to compare it with. Tom said the clutch has a problem and when I engaged it it sort of clunked. Some kind of bearing?

Over to you!

Another chap was supposed to be looking at it after me. Perhaps a call to Tom would be a good idea if you are still interested. If I wanted a pure track car I might consider it as a cheap basis, but I like something to drive that I can feel proud of, and enjoy polishing occasionally as well as hooning about a bit.
