S2 - broken front caliper earth wire

I noticed today that I have a broken wire on both sides of the car within the brake system (see attached). I don't know what the module is or exactly what the wire does but I'm guessing a ground wire to the pad sensor system?? and hopefully nothing related to abs!! I have exactly the same broken wire on both sides of the front brakes. The brakes seem to function fine and I have no warning lights. I would not have even thought there was an issue until I came across this today.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Chris.

It looks to me to be the brake pad sensor circuit which is strange as you should be getting the in-dash light illuminated. The other wire is for the ABS sensor. A test to see if that circuit is working is to unplug the sensors totally and if the light still doesn't illuminate then there is something else amis. Maybe the in-dash bulb or a fuse?

I might have got this wrong, but I thought the Brake Pad Wear light worked by the sensor making a circuit when exposed in the pad, hence if it's been cut off, it won't be making a circuit and won't be lighting up.

Or have I got it totally wrong[8|]

I thought it worked by breaking connection, hence you need to solder the wires together if you remove the sensors to stop the light from coming on.

It actually works by making a circuit with the brake disk but there is a failsafe that indicates to the driver if there is a problem with the sensor wire, therefore if the sensor wire is cut or is broken the dash light will illuminate. That is why if you are not using the wear sensor you need to rig the system somehow like Fen has said. I just used the wear sensors but bundled it together with cable ties to keep it out of the way.

I removed mine (sensors broke) and simply twisted the wires together but the warning light is showing. Am I missing something as when I removed the sensor completely the warning light still showed?

Hmm, finally got round to trying to fix this today (I have a 9 week old son who is taking priority of my play time!).
On tyring to remove the nut and old terminal, the bolt sheared off! - and it's a part if the strut assembly, great! So, it's a new strut to fix properly - I'll just try and terminate it some other way as I'm not really needing new struts yet - besides, as these wires seem to have been broken for some time and everything appears to be working fine, I may just leave it until the struts do get eventually renewed.

I'll let you know the results if I do get it terminated......
