S2 cab battery

Can someone please tell me if there should be some kind of brackets/locks to secure the battery in the cab boot. I recently discovered that the noise come from the n/s boot is actually caused by the knocking sound of the battery which sitting loosely in the battery slot without anything attaching to/securing it.

Yes, it's an MoT failure to have a loose battery. It could also dent the outside panel if it hits the inside of it when it moves.

I don't recall it being any different to the coupe and I once took some pics for an American who wanted to copy the RHD boot location in his LHD car, I can't find them right now but maybe I can tomorrow if necessary. It's basically a clamp bolted through the tray to hold the battery by the lip they have moulded into them much like many other cars have.

As fen says it's just the same as you find in most cars. The bracket secures to the bottom "lip" of the battery when you tighten the bolt.Mine rattled a little though even when secured so i put some strips of rubber under the battery to cushion it a little.

Thanks for the help guys. I will have a look at it tomorrow. I seem to recall there is a metal strip (about 2 ins long) with a couple of holes attaching to the back panel at the same level as the battery top.

Charles, its part number P945.611.021.00 and costs ÂŁ7.26 + VAT from your local OPC. I bought one last week, this comes complete with the bracket, bolt and washer, Paul

I had a look at the battery this morning and also took this picture. Am I right that the bracket/clamp (which is missing!!) should be bolted through the hole of the battery tray and then secured onto the battery's lower lip slot. It seems that some idiot had forgot to put it back (or lost it) while the battery was replaced.

This is the bracket from mine showing the "lip" that secures the battery down (had to get my battery out to charge it up).

My pics are here http://fen.fotopic.net/c42436_13.html I think you're sorted now though by the sound of it.

Paul,

Yes, the part number is spotted on. Thanks. Its quite an awkward position to fix the bracket and will require a short Allen key. I nearly dropped both the key and the bracket under the tray.
