S2 Cab Prices

Hi All,

We went to look at a S2 Cabriolet this morning & I would like some guidance on the value.

1992 on a J plate
78k miles OPC history to 67k (MOTs to support mileage)
2 owners inc present one
4 way electric leather Sports seats
Soundpack speaker upgrade option
Belts done at 48k (so need done soon)

Identical to the one I sold apart from speakers and with 114k less miles and a cosmetic bump on one wing and I sold for £5,750. OPC history means no chain / tensioner check (mine had only 12k on the belts and it had had cams and chain 45k earlier) - I'd keep back some money for that (including cams in wost case, call it £1,500). I see the car at about £7,500 based on what you've said but I bet it was more like £9-£10k as advertised?

Depends who you use. Cams, belts, service, £1,500 on the nose in May 2003 just after I bought my cab.

I can give you his number but Devon is a long way for you and he's pretty busy with a 944 Turbo in the workshop right now [;)]. To be fair he's ex-OPC and I think he can get the parts from the OE manufacturer direct rather than through Porsche paying a premium. He also charges £5 an hour more now than he did back then - so that's £30/hr now.

Thanks Fen but it is too too late!
To try and be of some use and not divert your thread, I have noticed (from having to read alot on the train to work, as my car is... hang on don't go there) that there seem to be quite a few cabs for sale at the moment. In GT Purely Porsche the fleet cab is for sale (still) which is a 92/J 68,000 miles for £11,495.00 In 911 Porsche there are four or so, including a Turbo for £11,500 which is also a J plate 77,000 miles. In fact just checked, there are two Turbos, the other is £13,500.00 85K. Cheapest is £8,495.00 '89 G plate.91K

I think Tracey's boss just bought one of the Turbo Cabs & the other one the guy gets all coy if you ask for an indipendant check on it, some thing to hide me thinks !!!

Fen,
The car is between what you see it as being worth & what you think its advertised for, so a reasonable contender I think.

A colleague told me he knew of someone with an S2 cab for sale £4K (sounded too cheap to me?). If you're interested, I can ask for more details... Let me know.

Cheers,

Jim.

I went through this exercise recently. I found whichever way I looked at it the end cost was the same. If I bought a car for £5k I would need to spend 3 or 4 to get it right, or spend £8-9k for something pretty straight. With hindsight I wish I'd paid out for a turbo rather than the S2 but thats only my personal opinion.

Good Luck

Chris

I'd tend to agree; an S2 cab is worth about £8k-£9k with the sort of miles most have so you either want one that has documentation to say the cams are good along with FSH or (better IMO) a nice one for at most £7,500 so you can sort the cams out yourself so you know it's done. A replaced clutch is the other biggie I'd like to see.

I also went through a cab selection process over a period of a few months checking prices/mileage etc (30+cars) most in range £5995 catD to £12950 apart from odd concourse @£16000! I set my limit at £10000 got a G plate (7th April 05) with 37000mls which had £4000 spent on it in last yr - new Hood, Wheels/Tyres. For mechanical peace of mind I took it to Hartech for Cat C & got a £2k+ bill to really sort it. Cam Chain Belts etc needs doing every 40000 to avoid needing Cams - also check Suspension (wishbones/ball joints/Brake Disks Steering Shaft). Considered 2 others at £8-8500 but may have needed £3/4000 spend ? - beware & check - if possible get an independant check or buy from a respected dealer with a warranty.
good luck
Clive
