S2 cambelt replaced but now whining more than normal ...

After replacing the cambelt and balance belt along with two cambelt guide rollers the car is back in one piece and running normal, the only thing i noticed is that the whine from the engine is noticeably louder than before, i know that s2 engines tend to whine a little but this has increased by about 3 times the normal level...at first i thought i might had tensioned the cambelt and balance belt too tightly but after slacking them off slightly the whine is still as loud as before, i never experienced this last time i replaced them ! Could this have anything to do with my last Thread ? Blance shafts and belt... any thoughts would be useful.

Thanks Steve.

Thanks for the advice guys...BUT i have again reduced the tension on the balance belt to a point where i think anymore would be too lose, the whining is still as loud , im now thinking may be i should put some miles on it and keep an eye on the tension of both belts...

I had this with my 8 valve (924S) and this is what I was told.
Being new the teeth on the belts have sharper edges and as they bed in the noise will reduce.
That was in Febuary and they are now much quieter.

Our S2 did this after a cambelt change.

Highlighted it to our very reputable indie (Motorpoint - up here in Jockland) who had initially performed the work and it was cured via adjustment to an idler roller ~ Peter described that the clearance to this item was a smidge too low, so it was dragging when cold when it should still have been in clearance.

I have no idea whether this is well described - I've done several timing belts in my time, and usually rollers/guides are in contact at all times....but since I was paying him to do the S2 I haven't so much as looked at a diagram showing what the belt arrangement looks like, so took him on his word (and the noise dissapeared).

Ye i have checked all of the above realy, i know the roller your talking about and its set to the right position, the trouble i have now i wont realy be using the car much until early next year so as far as running the belts in i guess i will have to wait and see unless theres anything else i can try or check ?.
