S2 decat question...

I've just got a Dansk ss exhaust for my S2 & was after a decat pipe too. I saw this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=370042020265&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=024

and it looks very very similar to the decat boxes available from Promax, ESS etc. Do you reckon it would fit in place of the cat on a '91 S2? I can't see why not, & it's half the price!

Cheers,
Robbo

No it won't.

The bolt pattern on the S2 exhaust is not the same as the 2.5

If you just want to decat then get a good exhaust place to cut out the cat and weld in a straight pipe. Graham (944turboS) had this done at a place local to him near Birmigham for under £50 IIRC and it was stainless

The cat on the S2 is a good one, nice and free flowing is there really much difference/gains to be made by changing the cat?

I've just had an ESS cat replacement fitted and its great. A little nicer sound and apparently very easy fit - although the down pipe does need to be cut off just before the cat then the replacement fits over the original with a sleeve then clamp. All done by my indie in 30 mins. Reason for change was that my Cat disintegrated internally!

(p.s. while you are at it get an induction kit from ESS and a performance chip - the car feels superb now!)

Mine S2 does not have a cat but the mid silencer ony. I had it cut out (since it rattled a bit) and replaced by a stainless steel straight thru section by a custom exhaust shop all in for £30. It now feels more responsive and sounds better too and possibly some extra bhps. One of the best mods ever.

Charles,

Interesting ... who was the exhaust shop who did the work?

I may have to call in and ask them to do the same ...

Oli.

Oh well, it was worth a try! I'm guessing a straight through pipe would be a lot noisier than a cat replacement box?

Also, if the downpipe is cut to fit a decat section, is it easy enough to refit the cat at a later date?

Cheers,
Robbo

A couple of guys on Titanic had full systems from Longlife several years ago and they were very happy with the quality, price and individual service they provided so I am sure a simple cat replacement would be just as good

I've had a quote for a full 3" system from the Turbo backwards with proper mandrel bends and a sound level tailored to suit my needs at a very competetive £589 including fitting and VAT, so they definately seem to have the price sorted
