Thought I'd post some pics of the engine work.
Firstly here's the obligatory before shot...

I'll get a new header tank soon as it does let the side down a bit, and the rest of the bay needs a good clean too.
I'm quite tempted to pick the letters on the cam cover in white, which is borderline chav behaviour I suppose [;)]

The post wouldn't be complete without thanking Phil for the engine and gearbox, Dave at JZ Machtech for his extensive work in getting it all to fit, Nick for plumbing assistance and Simon at ESS for supplying one of his exhausts specially so it would fit through the slotted rear valence.

And lastly here's a pic of the vented panel that will provide some air flow to the intake. It's just resting in place here as we're still hacking bits off to get it to fit [:D]

Thanks Fen, I'm now quite pleased with it too having seen it in daylight, the finish isn't perfect but its so much nicer than original beige in my opinion.
Best regards,
Peter.

The badge panel will look good too when it's painted (I was posting last time when you added that pic).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]You need a new header tank; you know the grungy yellow ones as soooo last year [:D][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Its a big job but eminently sensible.

I'd be interesested in any challenges they had with the electrical system, as the looms are different.

I'm reshelling my 89 S2 with a Jap 88 Lux shell (complete with loom, fuel and brake lines)

The fuel lines (feed and return) are different and there are minor body panel issues to deal with.

The 924 Carrera front panel is also a smart option as this gives better airflow to the airbox.

Good luck.

Peter..
Is the S2 engine standard or "modified".????
Nice one on the transplant....[;)][;)]
I believe your going to Donnington on Sun 20th.. Ill see ya there....
Ill be in my m8,s white 968 CS.....as my car is a bit "crook" at the mo....[][][]

Thanks for all the kind comments.
Andy, I wish I was responsible for the install, but at the end of the day I just had the idea and then a few weeks later handed over payment, so I can't really comment on the intricacies of the install.

However I don't believe the electrics were too bad as Phil provided us with the original engine loom. The plumbing did prove to be a bit of a headache, which was where Nicks car came in very useful as they didn't have a another S2 in to compare at the time. Interestingly Dave mentioned that there seemed to be a lot of subtle changes on the S2's around this time.

As you say it is a big job, Dave spent approximately 45 hours (including gearbox swap and a few other odds and ends) doing the work, but at my request was very thorough!
The new parts list is comprehensive to say the least [:)]

The airbox will be going fairly soon as there's not enough room for the plastic vents once the badge panel is fitted, so I'll be fitting a cone filter instead, possibly with some kind of guard to keep it out of the direct path of rain/car washing.
Best regards,
Peter.

Dave, the engine is standard. For the time being I'll whack in a chip and be done with it, the bodywork is the next area to concentrate on as it desperately needs a respray [:(]
I've not decided on what to do in the long term though, a super charger is tempting, but I really like the idea of just having a higher compression, high revving 3.2L monster rebuild in a couple of years if I can prove to myself that good reliability and suitable gains can be acheived.
I look forward to meeting you on Sunday.
Best regards,
Peter.

I'd been wondering when the S/C word would be used [;)]

As you're obviously akin to myself in that you're prepared to pay far more money to improve the car compared with what its worth [] then my suggestion would be.

Fit low compression pistons 8.0:1 and then bolt on the Ninemeister supercharger, but run it at proper boost levels (say 1 bar as opposed to 0.3 bar IIRC) and prepare to walk all over us laggy, heavy arsed Turbo boys [:D]

Peter,
what short shift kit are you using?

Paul,
been out of circulation last 4 months, when is the next meet with the 944 group?
Andy

Hi Andy,
The short shift kit is from http://www.type-911.co.uk/ and I'd highly recommend it. The only downside is it needs oiling every service, but this slight inconvenience is more than outweighed by the improvement it gives.
Best regards,
Peter.
