S2 Fog/sidelight problem

Yesterday I set about changing the sidelight bulbs for those brigthter LED-type jobs, but the screws in the offside unit were so corroded I couldn't get them undone. In the end I had to drill two of the screws out, in the process ruining the screw holes in the housing on one side. So, does anyone have the back housing for this light unit going spare for a reasonable sum please? Some new screws would be useful too...

I also had the dash pod out yesterday to change the temp/fuel guage which was faulty. Much easier than I thought and now it all works perfectly after acquiring a complete dash pod for a tenner off ebay! All the warning lights now work too, and when I apply the handbrake the windscreen washer warning doesn't come on any more!

And a little tip - I opened up the air filter housing to see what's what, only to be confronted with half of it rammed full of dried leaves and sweet wrappers. Strangely, the engine now seems to run smoother with better pick up...

Cheers, Craig

I had the same problem and had mine sorted out while it was in getting the sills done, they had to do the same and IIRC just put a new nut on the back as I think its a simple nut the bolt screws into isn't it? That reminds me, I need to change my side lights anyway so I'll go have a look...
EDIT: It looks like they put a new thread in the grey plastic housing, I'm not sure if its helicoil as it looks brass, maybe they inserted something similar. New fog light units were around £70-£80 when I looked last year. 2nd hand ones may have the same problem you have. Might be worth taking it a local garage and see if they can sort it? The housing is only plastic so it can't be hard.

Hahaha, odd that eh.

Hi Craig. When I first removed the lenses on mine the screws were really stuck fast but I persisted with the usual persuasive methods...a sharp tap on the end of the scredriver did it.

However, when I got them off, I found that the threaded inserts in the lamp body had been replaced with plastic Rawlpugs...don't laugh, it seems to work just fine!! A previous owner must have had to drill them out.

All put back together with a little grease on the threads (I may havwe substituted /S scres...can't recall)

Thanks chaps. I'll be looking at it again today after managing to purloin a replacement housing from a very nice man indeed. Thanks Ron!
