S2 Intermittent Non-Start?

Jumped in my 944 S2 this morning, popped in the Immobiliser fob, turned the key and"¦..nothing"¦

Tried it several times afterwards only for it to do exactly the same. Left it until later in the day but it refused to turn over. Then after several attempts, it turned over and fired up no problem. Feels like it might be the starter motor? Any other possibilities?

Mine had a similar prob a few years back (95-96), turned out to be a faulty solenoid on the starter motor. Only a few quid to fix by a local mechanic, but only after my local OPC diagnosed a faulty Immobiliser and charged a couple of hundred to replace!!!!!

I would check the DME relay as these often go and casue starting problems, also worth looking at the crank sensors, whip it out and give it a clean. If you not getting anything from the starter motor noise wise it would suggest the issue is the ignition system, ie DME, sensors, etc. I would imagine a starter motor to give up over a period of time and progressively get worse rather than suddenly stop working, although I'm sure they do on occasion.

How healthy is the battery? Mine caused intermittent starting problems, when the RAC tested it it was fine, but put it in the car for a few days and it would struggle. Not had a single problem since replacing with a new one.

Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't mention I had jump leads attached when I manged to get it to fire up so a dodgy battery could be the problem.

I might replace the DME relay and battery and see how it goes.
