S2 jacking plates

While working under the car at the weekend I noticed that the jacking plate on the passenger side had deformed. And when I say jacking plate, I mean the plate in the middle of the car under the diamond marker on the sill.

The egg cup shaped extrusion that hangs down has deformed, probably I suspect to rust induced weakness during previous use of the jack. Further inspection shows that this plate looks like it is removable, although the it would almost certainly need drilling out. It's going to be a problem though, as the jack now can't jack the car up straight and as such twists when is use. I know a photo would really help here, but I didn't have a camera with me at the time.

The question I have is, has anybody else had this happen to them and is it likely to be indicative of further rot? In general the sills look good, and there is reference in the service history to regular application of Waxoyl by Northway Porsche. The only rust I have (that is visible...) is on the leading edge at the rear of the driver's side sill.

Thanks

Hi James, I can't really help with your main question, but those jacking points are still easily available from Porsche (and quite cheaply too) as we did those on my car. Given where they're located I think it's relatively unlikely that it's a sign of further rust but it's wise to have a good poke around whilst doing them. A good bodyshop should be able to replace one of these quite quickly I'd have thought.
