S2 K+N Air Filters?

Considering the purchase of a K+N air filter, but unsure as to the difference {if any}between the standard Air box design at £40, and the cone induction kit at arond £100.Would be grateful to hear your views on this? Also whilst on the subject of air filters, would someone please explain the correct procedure for removal of the body work to access the airbox? Before I belt it with a big stick repeatedly?

HI JayJane, I bought a K+N Panel filter for my S2. And yes it improved air flow and feels more responsive and sounds a bit better to. As for cone filters on an S2 don't think it's a good idea as the filter will sit behind in the top slot just above the number plate were the air box is and may draw in water from the rain and when washing, and a lot of dirt to from general driving around. I got my Filter from Euro Car Parts for £50 inc VAT. It's about 14inches lond by 4 inches high (BIG HUH). To take off the nose cone you have to turn on the pop up lights, and pull out the rubber seals inside, don't worry they go back in very easy. Then you'll need an 8 mm socket with extention peice to undo the small nut that joins the nose cone to the wing. Do this on both sides. and then undo the 4 little screw in the middle of the nose cone were you put your hand to pull up the bonet. I'm sure you'll find it easy to locate the screws anyway. Then slowly pull the nose co towards you, may want to put a bit of masking tape on the top of the bumper to stop any scratches. And the air box is there, undo clips and slide out filter. It's easier than it sounds but a right pain in the ass just to change a filter.
Need any more help just mail.

Edited to add There are also two screws either side of the nose cone that are reached from within when the popups are up.

Many thanks for the advice and instructions on airfilter removal.Likewise I shall purchase the element type as apposed to the cone filter.Cones only work on an icecream anyway!

Bought a "cone type" stainless steel induction kit from Essential Styling, back in May, for my '89 Turbo.
Can't honestly say that I notice either an improvement or a detriment to the performance, but it sounds good under hard acceleration!!! [:)] It was also a piece of pi** to fit and looks better in the engine bay than the previous plastic box cover. Will try to take a photo over the weekend and post it on this thread on monday.

No problem. Just remember to tell who services it not to change it!
Tell us more about your S2 Colour year.
Good luck!

OK !You asked for it!! 3 months ago I traded an Audi Quattro, and a bag of cash, for an 89 S2 cabriolet in White with recently new black hood+matching leather.96K on the clock, stamped service book incl cambelt intervals etc, and in good overall condition or so I thought.600 miles later, smoke starts pouring from the bonnet,as the cambelt slowly wears itself away rubbing on the engine casing itself! What a stink too, they must make them cambelts from recycled OAPs underpants! Into the garage it went for a verdict?Turned out to be the cambelt tensioner had disintergrated, hence the belt moving over on the top pulley/catching the engine.Lucky to have been in slow traffic I think, cause at speed I wouldn`t have seen the smoke!Mind you im certain on second thoughts, id of smelt it!!Anyway, joking apart,I had all the belts and tensioners renewed,New waterpump, dibcap +rotor, plugs, filters etc, etc, etc went perhaps over the top on the list of "whilst your at it"parts replacement list to be truthfull, but I needed the piece of mind after that little incident.Touch wood !The cars running superbly now,and Im even starting to like it again, hope I live to be 378,or I`ll never get the money back Ive spent though!!Upto present Ive changed the affore mentioned parts, upgraded the hi-fi and the wheels/tyres to the cup 1 type,A K+n filters my next purchase, and theres a rattle of baffles in the rearbox, so I might have to invest in a stainless steel type shortly.Just purchased a digital camera too,so if I ever do find out how it works, Ill try to place a picture up somewhere. In fact Im off out to give it pasting now!I must get some pleasure, before it breaks again!!

Sound nice, must of been scary having the cam belt burn out. Just see credit card being abused on repairs haha. I bourght back in July an 89 S2 Coupe, Guards Red Black Leather sports seats 66k on the clock and full porsche service very lucky to find it as it was near mint condition. just needed cleaning and polishing to bring it up to scratch. Upgade the Hi Fi and built a box for 6x9 speakers in the boot. YES YES I hear every one say' wheres the photos'. I'll post them shortly i promise. I replaced the air filter with a K+N, plugs di-cap and rotor arm to. Only real expense was £18 for a climate sensor. It's a great car to drive but terrible in traffic. Lokk forward to seeing the photos of you S2 cab
