S2 Manual transmission oil capacity?

Hi Guys,

I'm getting conflicting information from my handbook and info on the web. I'm going to refresh the manual gearbox oil with Swepco 201. What is the capacity of the gearbox on the S2 please?

Many thanks, I'm hoping it will quieten things down...whining is pretty vocal when warm, though shifts are always excellent. If the noise disappears in neutral or with the clutch engaged, which bearing is likely to be fudged?

Lateer owners manuals (series two / MY'86 onwards) understate the capacity by about half a litre. I believe that Porsche made a simple metric to imperial conversion error (made with wheel torque too) which was then perpetuated.

An S2's transaxle will take a similar amount of oil to that in a series one car.

slight hijack as I'm thining of doing mine soon as I'm lucky enough to have a 88 2.5 that doesn't have a gearbox whine and I'd like to keep it that way!
Is there a flush fluid that is worth using when changing fliud or doesn't it really matter?

DONT FORGET TO ENSURE THE FILLER PLUG CAN BE UNDONE BEFORE DRAINING IT VIA THE DRAIN PLUG!

They can be stuck fast due to electrolytic action and need heat and a major effort to undo.

Paul makes an excellent point and assuming it's the same on other gearboxes, both the drain and fill plug on my Turbo box are tapered threads, so once they're in good and tight if there's corrosion they'll be a pig of a job to remove...

1st step remove the fill plug !

ORIGINAL: A9XXC

Its easy to fill through the speedo hole on the later 'boxes.

I still cant my drain plug out!

Lots (I mean lots) of heat on casing around plug and then freeze. Once out use coppergrease.
