S2 Oil Grade

I hope someone can help me with this, can anybody confirm what grade of oil I should be putting in my 944S2 as I've heard a number of different answers to this question. Thanks All

Porsche says 0-40 (mainly because 0 grade should flow the best on a cold start reducing wear). Also heard 5-40 recommended but I'll stick to 0-40 even tho mine is a summer only use.

Depends what you use the car for, how many miles she has done and when you drive her. I always used to run 5w-40 in our 968 as that was a pure road car, in my 944 S2 race car though I run Millers CFS 10w-50 I believe it is. She burns this fairly slowly but would burn a 40 weight oil pretty quickly on track, if the engine was rebuilt however I could safely run a thinner oil ok. When my S2 was a road car I ran various 10w-40 oils for many many years, the same engine at 170k miles is still in my race car.

As Neil said - 10W40 for a road-going and very occasional track-use car. I have used this in my S2 for the last 80,000 miles (going from 110,000 to 190,000) and the engine is still, as far as I can tell, in excellent condition. I use a good quality semi-synthetic and change it every 5000 miles. (I can't say that it doesn't use any oil as it leaks it a little bit, which is very annoying!)

However be warned - this question is asked fairly frequently on here and you'll get all sorts of answers! [:D]

Oli.

10w40 here - I use Petronas Syntium 1000 as it's cheap, and seems to stand up well on track.
