What is the aluminium box that looks like a small ECU which is immediately above the rear hatch switch in the driver's footwell ?
I can't get down low enough to see it clearly with my poorly back...(que violins)[:D]

I think the one you're refering to is the dip dim relay which controls side lights/ pop up headlights. I believe this is the one you have to pull if you're going to run the earlier 944's with stealth running e.g. headlights down when on sidelights but with the functionality of the fogs for trackdays.

Yup, it sounds like the dim/dip box to me. About the size of a cigarette packet, with a big black connector?

wow that was quick !
I guess its the size of ....well I just looked again and its 8" x 4" x 2" thick with the same connector as the ECU its a big sucker for a dip switch

In my Lux it's about the size of a large cigarette packet, and it is indeed part of the dim dip functionality (white plug with 5 wires going into it IIRC). On the other hand, yours sounds bigger, and my car doesn't have ABS.

So this may not have helped you hugely, but I've had so much info from here I'm trying to give some back [:)]

its huge . The connector is the same size and shape as the ECU and the loom looks like it has about 10-15 wires?

I think it might be the flux-capacitor[:D]

Recipie (Suitable for a boring afternoon.)

Ingredients:

- Porsche 944, doing between 30 and 50 mph
- Wet / muddy / otherwise slippery road (not essential but preferable)
- Strong right leg, preferably with foot in large boot

Method:

1. Check for no other vehicles in sight (either in front or behind)
2. Apply boot very hard to brake pedal, preferably aggressively
3. Pay close attention to results, while trying to keep the car on the road

Oli.

I have performed this test several times on various surfaces. Car locks up every time.[&:]

I have ABS, dash lights come on and go out as they should. ABS seems completely inoperative. Any suggestions?
