S2 sunroof

So after the success of replacing my washer bottle, thought I'd have a bash at the sunroof.
As expected, both gears have mashed teeth so ordered 2 new. Come to put it back together today and discovered the cable that should go all the way from the motor to beyond the drivers side sunroof arm wasn't in situ and was in fact nestling in a coiled heap in the well where the battery and sunroof motor live.... It doesn't look damaged compared to the limited images on Google, but I'm wondering where the cable terminates, or how it terminates, to determine whether I've got any hope in hell of fixing this myself...

Cheers

Without the load on the cable, the motor has just run it all through

with a bit of trial and error, you should be able to get it all working, Clarke’s garage has lots of info on the roof

I feel I may ultimately fail on this but I'm enjoying the process of learning how it works.... You're right thigh, at some stage the sunroof button must have been pressed long enough for the whole cable to unwind.... Took me 20 mins to work out how to rethread it back through the cog behind the motor, but at least the cables back in situ now and I've stopped due to bad light....I think getting the microswitches/clutch in the correct position is going to be the tricky bit without stripping the new cogs again.

The cogs getting stripped was probably age and that allowed the the cable to run,
get it all rebuilt with new cogs, but slacken the clutch and that should save the cogs, don’t buy the brass ones off the bay or even new cogs off the bay, OPC is far cheaper

I got a pair from frazerpart for £20 delivered....
On the old cogs, the larger ring of teeth was fine, the smaller ring of teeth were stripped meaning there was nothing for the metal raising/lowering bars to grip onto... Still haven't worked it all out... Managed to get the bars into the "sunroof lock" position which is progress as the roof won't flap about like it has done the last couple of years, but they won't extend any further to raise the roof... I'll keep trying
