S2 Tensioner slipper replacement

Hi all,

Been working through Clarks-garage doing my belts, tensioners, chain and have got to the point I want to replace the chain tensioner slippers only (supplied from Promax) and reusing the tensioner body which Clarks-garage doesn't appear to have any instruction for (believe chain slippers were readily available at the time).

Has anyone else done this? Are there any dos or don'ts?

I have tensioner off, the bottom slipper I'm not so worried about as it doesn't appear do much anyway and comes with 2 grub/short screws but the top one should I be worried about it coming off - bond it on as 'belt and brances' or have people done this and its lead to other failure modes?

Failing this I was going to call up Promax for their input as the thing came with no fitting instructions - fairly self explanatory I guess...

Cheers

Tom

The top slipper slides off easily when you release the tensioner spring, which is compressed according to your picture.

I replaced both slippers twice over the life of my S2 but never felt the need to replace the tensioner itself.

Haha yeah plugged and stuffed the head - banjo J feed pipe come with 2 copper washers on each connection and I had nightmares thinking I would lose one down the oil gallery!

Same advice I was going to give!!

I dropped one of the banjo washers when refitting, I thought the oil stiction was holding it in place - but no, lol!!

I used a little bit of threadlock on the screws that hold the lower slipper, also, best to torque the banjo/tensioner bolts to spec (apparently they are easily stripped) and the cam cover bolts.
