S2 / Turbo Front Driving/Fog Lights - suggestions

Has anyone done anything interesting with their front lights?

Given the cost of lenses, let alone a complete unit (£££) I was looking for suggestions on what to do with the existing lamps or replace them with something more radical .... I have one that is broken - the plastic unit rather than the lens, but then the lens looks like it has been shotblasted too.

I have seen the duct inserts but I'd prefer to retain some form of lighting there.

So I was looking around for ideas and was considering whether a new insert could be made - the same size as the aperture that holds a sidelight, driving lamp and maybe a fog lamp too.... but then that got me looking at DRLs too and into LEDs and that road just feels too Max Power for a nearly 20yr old S2....

Any suggestions / thoughts ?

Phil

Its a tricky one - Wolfie308 was experimenting with LED's which actually looked not at all bad - theres a thread buried deep somewhere about it. Other than that you are looking as you say at restoring the original or duct inserts.

There are a couple of people now making plastic guards for these lights.
Alasdair on here and a chap called Ben over on Tipec.

Only 'cos Jon mentioned them, I've 'upgraded' my sidelight setup with a 12 white LED strip and the indicators are supplemented with similar strip in amber. I think they're quite subtle.......ish [:D]

Hi Richard,

Do you have any pics of your lights (when on!)

If someone could crack (excuse the pun) a credible replacement for existing light that included a fog / side / main beam light (and maybe a DLR) then I'm sure they'd be a market for it. (although limited and likely dwindling...)

Hi Phil, I presume with the headlights on? - if so, that's where it all goes a bit pear shaped. I have to admit the effect doesn't really work with the pods up, both because of the comparative yellowness of the main beam and the conflict in styling. I think I need to rewire so they go off when the main comes on. I've also fitted 1W BA9s LED's in place of the standard 4W filament bulbs

Although most will disagree, I think the 2 slots of the S.2/turbo P.U lend themselves to the fitment of suitable sized DRL units. My Lotus reseller has just added a choice of 3 which might fit the bill.
