S2 Windscreen

Hello,

I need a windscreen for my S2, to go back in once the bodywork is complete (and this is imminent). I thought I read somewhere on here that someone had a new one fitted for less than £200 - is that possible?

Could manage with a supply only (or a fitter in the Nottingham / Derby area).

Is it just a case of hitting the phones for the usual suppliers (National, Autoglass ...) and the prices associated with those?

You dont want to know the Autoglass price for one ! , I was chatting to the man on the phone whilst dealing re another car and asked out of interest. He gave me the genuine price for one on that day and it was more than some 944's are worth !

I think you will end up with a used one , there are enough 944's broken as you know [;)]

£600 last time I checked 5 years ago, for a new screen fitted. Has anybody on here successfully removed a screen in one piece?

When I last bought one they were available for just over £200 from wholesalers, although OPCs were a good deal dearer. Original parts arent too expensive and theyre certainly nothing like the comedy (and insulting - do they think that we're fools?) prices that Autoglass quote.

If youre prepared to go without the aerial, then theyre still available for around £200 (this is actually a 924 Carrera GT screen) and antennae screens are under £300, although I dont have the information to hand and I cant remember for certain.

I had a new screen fitted to my 21 a while back. I had found a good chap on Pistonheads - I supplied the screen and he sent one of their better fitters (I had the last screen in existence and didn't want it broken) and it went in well. Bill wasn't alot.
I'm sure they would supply too and I can't imagine they would be that much.
I'll dig his details out if you would like.

That's handy to know for us square dash owners.

Thanks for the responses - strangely I have also spoken to the chap from Pistonheads who put me in contact with a trusted local fitter.

Upshot is screen with antenna & tint £420 + VAT (and there are limited supplies with his suppliers) or the screen without the antenna £220 + VAT and these are in plentiful supply. (both include fitting)

I think for £235 I'd be quite happy without the antenna and look to fit a roof mounted antenna (any recommendations?)

I'll let you know how I get on ....

Phil.

Early car screens were well under £100. Theyre not a great deal more from Porsche either.

The chap I have spoken to is Pete (the glassman from Borrowash) on 07977 585689. If you wanted someone more local then I would recommend talking to Paul (theglassman from Pistonheads - http://www.glasstecauto.co.uk/) as he has a network of trusted fitters that he can put you in contact with.

Not sure what I am doing yet - likely to be a new non-aerial screen with (sorry to those who wince when someone contemplates drilling a whole in their car!) a roof mounted aerial.......[8|]

Id probably fit a normal antennae behind the dash, itll work perfectly well, especially if you wire it through the amplifier. The fellow from Borrowash will be perfectly close enough for me thank you. I used to use someone from Derby for Porsche windscreens, but he is far from dependable now...

Id be grateful if you would send me this fellows contact details via PM, to this account, because I cant access my main user account at present.
