S2 won't start

I tried to get the S2 out of the garage this morning and she wouldn't start.

The immobiliser worked fine but when I tried to turn it over it just kept clicking.

Anyone any ideas?

Initial thoughts were flat battery then DME Relay.

I'd agree - but also possibly the starter motor or its connections. I had exactly that symptom a couple of months ago and it was the starter motor connections being dirty.

Thanks Fen,

I'll try a jump start, failing that I have a DME Relay on order from Bert Gear.

Had the same thing happen couple of weeks ago in the middle of nowhere.
I moved the DME relay a bit in its connections then it made a "click". The car then started, but the relay has been replaced since.

Might help in case of emergency.

It takes a lot of juice to turn over that big 3ltr 4. It takes a lot to turn over a Turbo and thats smaller with lower compression, so it could well be the battery.

I've had jump leads smoking trying to start Beaky when I inadvertantly left his Road Angel plugged in for a couple of days. Granted, they were cheap jump leads. I ultimately resorted to a tow start.

It was a flat battery.

Gave it a jump start and off it went.

Gave the old girl a quick whizz along the M62 to keep her fresh.

Hurrah [8D]

From a bike perspective most people swear by the Optimate chargers but it seems that the same firm do a version for cars

Has anyone got any experience of the Accumate stuff?

I have the Carcoon charger/ conditioner which looks stunningly identical to the Optimate one and costs the same price. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and I normally use it to keep a spare batery charged fully, or alternate on either of the cars if we're going away for a while and I don't want the alarm to drain the battery.

Easy to use and the Carcoon one came with wires for two batteries so I can plug it in to either
