Sad day......... Fuel pump not working

Hi.
Thought id finally hear my project roar into life today.
Alas no.
Fitted new fuel pump. Nothing.
Jumped pump and it works.
But there is no power getting to connection near pump.
Check fuse 34. All seems good.
Fuel sender is working.
Haynes suggests inline fuse?
Or relay?
Can't find. Really suck. : (

Car is a 1986 2.5 with 3ltr conversion.

Hi.

Yes was looking at DME relay (what does that stand for?) Is that the fuel pump relay?

How do I jump that?

DME relay provides power to the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on, if you're not getting a click click click from the fuel pujp when you turn the ignition on then the DME relay is the first potential culprit - which is why many FE Porsche owners (me included) carry a spare in the boot!

Check OPC and online for price before you buy - and beware Ebay prices, some are optimistic to put it mildly! Also I have seen posts where a "new" item was found to be faulty, so your best bet is first find someone local to you who has a working 944/968 and try their DME relay, if the car then starts try your replacement - if it then does not start you know the replacment is faulty!

DME stands for Digital Motor Electronics - in other words the Bosch ECU. The DME relay is in actual fact two separate relays within one case.

Turn on the ignition and the ECU/DME is energised. Start cranking the engine and when a pre-set minimum speed is reached, the ECU sends a control signal to the DME relay energising the fuel pump circuit.

Okay, got 30 minutes today.

Jumped the DME relay.

New pump ran.

But car still wouldn't start.

No spark.

Turned ignition on.

12v power to coil.

Shoved some wire into coil output.

No spark against body/earth.

WHY??????? :* (

Hi.

Got some time to look at it today.

Just some history. Bought blind off ebay. Drove it 200 miles. Only issue was hot start took alot of cranking.

When I got back i jet washed engine.

After 10 minutes it spluttered back to life and I drove into garage.

Changed fuels lines (weeping ) and fuel pump. And rotor arm. And soldered nasty connectors in wire feeds to coil. New battery,

Now will not start.

12v to coil.

Jumped DME fuel pump runs.

On cranking techo jumps to 2000rpm there bounces sparodicly around 500rpm.

Removed number 4 lead put spark plug in lead and held against body.

Cranked for 30 seconds, I got one weak spark.

What the hell could it be or what have I done wrong?

Thanks in advance. K.

Check that that the jetwash hasn't left water & dampness somewhere critical-use WD 40 or GT85 on critical areas

Plan B--scrap it[&o]

Don't bother with jump leads, just get a new DME relay. If you haven't got a spare you need a spare.

I would rather drive without a spare wheel that without a spare DME relay.

There were 3 in car. Lol.

Do I really need another one? Hahaha.

Porsche want £80 for another, ebay are 25.????

I really don't understand the one spark in 20 seconds of cranking!
