Sad Loss - Peter Waggett

It is with deepest regret that I have to let you know that one
of our long serving regional members Peter Waggett passed
away on Christmas day.

Peter had been a member of Region 18 almost since
it's formation and attended most of it's events throughout
the region. He also undertook European tours in his immaculate
944 S2, and did the odd track day.

His 944 also won many R18 concours prizes over the years.

Over the last few years Peter had suffered with kidney
and other health problems and spent many hours on dialysis
before he was fortunate in having a transplant.

He even tried to arrange his dialysis at times when he would
then be able to attend R18 events, and we always kept a
place for him at Woodvale Rally and other events so
that he could attend with his wife Pat,
once he had undertaken his morning treatment,
or if having to leave early to have dialysis

Peter had unfortunately not been able to attend R18 events
over that last few months due to his illnesses. He was always
positive in getting better and returning to joining us at events.
He had even got brochures on the Cayman R as he was planning
to acquire one once he was in better health and possibly even
take part in track days again, which he had done in the past.

Those of you who have met Peter and Pat would have remembered
him always being a true gentleman and never getting
flustered or annoyed with anyone.

Peter and Pat usually won the prize for "Highest Age of Car and Occupants" at our major
event, "Porkers in he Trough" for many years.

Peter will be sadly missed as one of the characters and
a gentleman of Region 18 and a true Porsche enthusiast.
R18 members at the Christmas lunch and December
Club Night all signed a Christmas card for Peter and Pat which I hand delivered before he passed away.

Peter's funeral will take place on Tuesday 7th January at Preston Crematorium, off Longridge Road, Preston, PR2 5BP.at 12.00. Pat Waggett would like members of PCGB Region 18 to attend in their Porsches, and to meet in the car park there at 11.45.

Peter will be sadly missed as a member of Region 18 and PCGB.

If you require any further information please contact me direct.

David, that is very sad news indeed. Thank you for informing us. Your kind words say it all really. Our thoughts go out to Pat and Peter's family.

Sad news that another long standing Club member and Porsche owner has passed away.

I didn't know Peter but pass on my deepest sympathies to Pat and all his family at this sad time for them.

Peter was a gentleman of the old school. One of the few that was at the original meeting that Peter and Anne-Marie organised to kick start R18.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the funeral due to other commitments that day.

Cheers,

Certainly very sad news & my thoughts are with Pat & his family.

First met Peter at Le Mans in 2003-I think when we had to pitch our tent almost on top of his & his son's-it was that crowded-he was indeed the ultimate enthusiast & it has been a great pleasure to have known him since.May he rest in peace.

How very sad to hear, David.
And how very sad for Pat and her family as Christmas Day will now forever be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Had chatted to Peter on many occasions inc. Woodvale and Haigh, if memory serves, and a finer chap you would indeed be hard pushed to meet.
Hope you will be able to do send a card of sympathy to his family from the club as an en-bloc gesture from us all.

Graeme

Thanks for your thoughts.

I actually dropped off a sympathy card, on behalf of R18, with Pat on Sunday after the meal at
Dahlia's Kitchen which was signed by all those there who knew him.

Could we send a wreath if the family want this, or a donation to a Charity of the families choice?

I would happily donate if someone could organise with Paypal payments.

It would be a nice gesture from R18

Had the pleasure of chatting to him on a couple of occasions especially of his trips around Europe a very quiet spoken gentleman a true member of the old school the only school to be member of.

There are so many fond memories of Peter.

e.g. We attended The Car's the Star Show at Heave's Hotel in the filthiest weather imaginable. After several hours getting drowned it was decided to leave, but on returning to the car we found Peter's 944 still present. How could we leave and be thought a couple of wimps when Peter was still there and there was no sign of him. Nothing so simple as sheltering in the car for Peter and Pat...No get out and enjoy yourselves whatever the weather.

He never seemed to have a hearing aid battery which worked. If he was on your team at a quiz night (before the advent of google) you could guarantee that he would give his answers to the whole room as he didn't realise he wasn't whispering.
One of David's affectionate comments to him was "Excuse me for talking while you're interrupting Peter".

A really lovely man who epitomised what this Club is about. Enthusiasm, loyalty and true friendship.

I echo all of those sentiments expressed above.

Peter was here from the beginning when we started the Region in 1993 and was always on hand to help out whenever he could.

A very nice man indeed who leaves behind his equally lovely wife Pat.

I will be proud to see him off on the 7 January in the convoy of Porsche's in a fitting tribute to his love of all manner of cars, especially Porsche's.
