Sad news from across the Pond

JCB..

In the late nineties the waiting list was typically 12-18 months and many a 'waiter' lurked on Porsche Pete's Boxster Board as the primary source of information on the then new Boxster. I remember vividly, posting my first picture of my car proclaiming I was 'waiting no more'.

I'm sure that any of you who were visitors to Chuck's forum will feel saddened at his passing.

Chuck Hammersmith, who you all knew better as "Porsche Pete," died yesterday, July 1, 2007. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 4, in Burlington, NC. The viewing will be at 3 PM, and the service will be at 4 PM, both at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home at 306 Glenwood Avenue.
We know that many of you knew him well, and we welcome your support. As a family, we also request that any photos, fun anecdotes, or stories about our father/husband be sent to our newly created address: rememberchuck@gmail.com so that we can create a book of memories for him, and hear stories he may not have shared with us while he was alive.
Thanks to everyone on PPBB for being an important part of his life.
Sincerely,
Ginny, Kim, and Sarah Hammersmith

Really really sad news. [&o]

I too spent most of my "waiting" time hanging out there. I learnt an awful lot of stuff from the posters on PPBB.
I too remember telling of my Factory Collection experience on PPBB, and the "Brighton Run" being organised by the UK members of the board.

Thanks for posting this John.

Very sad guys, as you say, we hung out there, learned a lot and waited for many Porsche owners to get with the program (rather than affecting to look down their noses at Boxsters)

Porsche Pete we salute you!
