My '82 MY SC Sport Coupe will probably be on the market next month. A new business venture with a start date of August 3rd is vast approaching and like all these great plans....is already soaking up more cash than was first invisiged, and we havent even started yet !
You can email me if you want to know more.

Ah yes. You ditched the old girl in pursuit of a younger model. Easily done and enitrely understandable. God knows we've all been tempted. Mea culpa.

But the young one, although her form was firm and and her eyes bright, turned out not to have the physical depth or raw unrcomplicated sexuality of the old one. Am I right? Pert, firm, but somehow.... un-engaging?

OK. She was a bad girl. Dirty even. She may have cost you unreasonable amounts of money. But she was faithful. Her voice was deep, visceral, Marlene Deitrich gliding on Fuchs alloys. Do you still remember her smell? Do you remember the obscene way she vibrated in response to your every crude, juvenile touch. You remember how eagerly her old frame responded when you woke her up ridiclulously early on a saturday morning so you could work off your vile frustations picked up during your sordid humdrum wage-slave working week? Was it good? You bet it was!!!

You have to ask yourself: do you deserve another chance?

By your meek and candid confession brother, I at least think you do. Here is your penance: Find one in need of love. Give her what she craves, and find youself lucky. Restore her beauty, for she deserves it by virtue of her elite pedigree. Do this and, well, you already know what the rewards will be...

there is not a night that goes by without her passing through my mind..i attempted to open the garage where she sat for 5 years ....i could still smell her..the drips of oil still on the floor...the le mans classic badges still hang from the walls..the polish and detailer still poised on the bench..the battery charger still plugged in...anyone whos ever owned one know the feeling...even my wife has relented on the concervetory to try and lift me from the gloom....my lost love

Chris

What a wonderful post - haven't laughed as much in ages - and yet the serious message is clear for all to read. We've all been there ( in either context! ).

..the drips of oil still on the floor...

Now I'm crying.

I'm temporarily in the same boat. Mine's been away since 10:17am on Saturday 31st January having the engine rebuilt. Yes, I can now walk in there without climbing over the mower, but it's not the same. I miss that goofy smile...

Silver lining: I guess as a '79 it didn't have the 204bhp engine of the early 80s ones? The chaps who are working on mine, who know their onions / nickel-ceramic bore linings, really rate this lump over the earlier one - and even the later 3.2. Which of course reminds me of another serious lesson you doubtless learnt years ago: try and buy one that's had all that expensive stuff done already!

well heres a story of a greiving heart... i decided to purchase this item http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1982-PORSCHE-911-3L-SC-Coupe-Silver_W0QQitemZ370195807098QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item370195807098&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A3%7C65%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A100 click link if it works.. had conversations with guy said it needed minor paint and body repairs ..thought it was worth a punt anyway got train to nuneaton yesterday picked up from station in 911sc interior excellent machanically excellent got back to his place poked around underneath ...all ok noticed some poo around b pillars and door locks ok my rot radar antenna is up now, continued to poke around behind the front wheel noticed a small hole...uh oh finger goes through..opened engine lid engine sweet as a nut looked at inner wing behind oil filler ...bubbling...pushed it arrrgh like paper..then looked at other side behind controls same bubbles could not get fingers in but you can sumise from here..sevice history full to 1999 then only 5k since..its either been standing rotting for years or been out of service..the general body work was poor its a shame that some people bodge up paint jobs to sell cars this guy purchased it last year and has done a superjob of the electrics and mechanicals but the body has gone to far...oh well ÂŁ60 train fare down the pan..but still have my money...not a good feel running around allday with 7.5k cash in ones pocket ...back in the bank now (phew)

anyway this car is a good buy at 4k but needs 3k spending...he did not accept my 5 k bid oh well onwards with the search

and the best thing is...when i pushed my finger through the hole he said "is that supposed to be there"huumph...

stop press... he has relisted it with the same advert..after saying to me that he would change the description to...needs welding...

Classic [:D][:D]

Hey Jamie - I was just wondering how you were getting on. That sounds like a good move that will give you time to find something nice.

Nothing wrong with TVRs. I'll still talk to you anyway.

I miss that goofy smile...

Got the SC back last weekend by the way. The engine looks and sounds lovely. The frustrating thing is being limited to 3,000 RPM for a thousand miles before I get to hear what this new exhaust sounds like on song

Read this thread with great interest and have to say it is a classic used a box of tissues already..... how about making it into a film [:D]

I have had 10 Porsche's since 1993 and have to say the first one was really the love of my life a 84 Carrera 3.2 still have pictures of her lying about ..but life is to short to dwell on the past so move on I am sure the girl (sorry car ) of your dreams is out there some where

Chris,
Just to update you all on TVR Ownership..went out for a good blat on sunday got back checked levels and remebered these cars have a radiator...no liquid topped up small...very small leak in rad ...will solder this weekend apart from that 700 miles so far getting 24mpg on a run and 18 round town..err you can see the needle move at 150 lol..anyway i am starting to love this car...really the pain of my sc is leaving me ..slowly, i did and will never get out of the habit of waving at 911 drivers as i pass, the reason for this is i have been all over norfolk this weekend ..seen a couple of 911s and a 928...but no tvr's must be to far from blackpool bit of a novelty factor down here.

I went to the garage last night to give her a dust off....oh no that staring illness is back and any excuse to drive to the shops... I am alive again.

This thread, hmmmmmmm

Bought an SC off FleaBay in December, took it in to have the wing replaced, wheel alignment done and SSI's fitted. A VERY knowledgeable chap said, "don't bother, it's rusty as +++k, put it back on FleaBay".

Took it home, considered selling, thought for a day or so, looked at adverts and decided, better the one you know and all that.

I'm keeping my car and going to enjoy every minute, rusty or not, I LOVE IT.

Same here. The only enjoyable thing about running in an engine is that you have to drive it as much as possible to get it over with as quickly as you can, so commuting to work every dry-ish day. Even took it to B&Q on Sat to load up for the bank holiday weekend garden chores. Amazing what you can fit into a Targa with enough determination.

An old friend of mine had a TVR 3000 ML - basically a tuned 3 litre Capri engine in a 500kg shell. That had dreadful waterworks issues, but worth it. One of the nicest sounding cars I've ever heard, apart from maybe the Aston I heard once in Hitchin where the driver clearly deliberately kept it in 1st all the way down the high st. Music.

better the one you know and all that.

Dead right. Sort it out one bit at a time. The mechanics that did my engine said it was a borderline case bearing in mind it also needs money spending on the body. My thinking is that having done the total stripdown & re-build, replacing everything likely to wear out replaced while it was in bits, gives me a good degree of certainty as to what's going on in the engine. Now it's definately worth spending money on the body - I'm kind of committed now!
