Sagging driver's side door. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Hi,

I have a problem with my '88 944's driver's door which is driving me mad. The door was replaced by the previous owner but he told me it was never really hung properly but didn't bother him. IT BOTHERS ME!! [].

The door seems to be about 3-5 mm too low when you go to close it, there is a mark on the clasp where the catch hits it when you close the door so it's been going on a while. Once closed the door lines up perfectly and if I give the door a small "lift" whilst closing it clicks shut beautifully

I've tried loosening the two bolts, top and bottom, where the door attaches to the wing and jacking the door up but this made no difference. My passenger door clicks closed so gently and I want the other one to do the same!!![:(]

Please help!! Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its the drivers door and therefore probably hinge wear.

New hinges or have the old ones re bushed I`d say...............or a v v thin packer on the lower hinge??

Hi Graham

To me that sounds like the lower hinge has broken at the weld, where the hinge attaches to the door frame. It is a common problem and I have just had the same thing go on mine.

If it is this and you can tell if you get someone else to hold bottom of door and lift up and down gently whilst you inspect lower hinge. If there appears to be no movement in the hinge section attached to the wing then I am guessing it is this.

Unfortunately as I found you cannot get into the bottom hinge to re weld it inside the door, so I have just had to replace the door.

There not expensive, I found a good one £50 secondhand and as long as your car is not an unusual colour like mine you may even find one the same colour.

Hope youi get it sorted.

I have this problem on mine. I improved it by adjusting the bolts on the body and it works much better but its still not 100%. This took a while to do and was only successful when I supported the door more at the car end. It opens ok and does close when gently slamming but not a smoothly as it should do.

I also thought there was a pin in the door hinge which can bend and if you replace that things improve. I don't think any option is particularly easy.
