Same specialist or vary the SH?

Hi all

I'm looking at getting the 993 booked in for the annual service - most likely for a 24k job. Car was serviced with Jaz by the PO, and I last had it serviced by JZM. So with the upcoming service due, do I stick to JZM or do I vary the service history with other independent specialists? Other than JZM, who else do you guys recommend around the North London area? Will also be looking to install HDs + M030s + full alignment.

Thanks for your advice.

Unless you are unhappy with the service you got last time it makes sense to continue with someone with a good reputation and build a good relatioship with the mechanic. Why are you considering changing from JZM?

I'm curious as I know of a few owners who regularly switch between reputable specialists to ensure they are getting competitive servicing and varied expert opinions on the health of their car. Steve and Jonas seem to know their stuff quite well - the problem being that they seem to discover more things that need replacing when the car seems to be operating well... I almost get scared bringing the car to them when it is just due a regular service, as opposed to thinking there is actually anything wrong! [:D]

What are your opinions on the likes of AMD and Weltmeister, amongst others? Some other owners were keen to recommend AMD/Weltmeister for the facilities on offer which seemed to be slightly more state of the art than JZM. Of course, garage equipment is not necessarily representative of the mechanics expertise, but...

Cheers---

I know what you mean about extra things being discovered. Just had my annual service with JZM too. I think they do the job properly though.... I book it in for what I think is needed.... this year it was 12k service, new screen, full alignment, mot, couple of little trim bits. They then ring with a report of anything else they find. Some are things that can wait, others are things that are advisable to have done straight away. So, the 'extras' done this year were: New brake fluid; new fan/alternator belts; adjust oil cooler fan (it was rubbing on housing) clean and grease anti roll bar bushes. The things I opted not to do (till I've saved up again!) were: front wishbones; clutch (slightly juddery but plenty of life in it yet) rusty rear tinware; v. slight oil leak on gbox (can be done when I do the clutch) split front shock bush. replace intermittently sticky steering lock. None of the latter group needed urgent attention (say JZM) so I can budget for them later. I find that they do always ring before doing anything, and you can then budget for a few extras come each annual service. The work I had done cost about £1100. My car is '1997 with 56k on clock. I expect to have a few things each year to keep it tip top.

Only criticism I have is that the screen is creaking a bit, and I did have the new screen fitted at JZM so that the tape could be put in at the same time. It's no big deal though and I'll have a chat with them about it monday.
