Hi Brett,
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Thank you for your e-mail. I do not access the Club's Forum on a regular basis and could not access the links you sent me as, a) I was busy yesterday and, b) I could not remember my password to get on the Forum.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Can I suggest for the future, if you have a particular question about the Club's Motorsport or Track Days, you address it to Club office. The e-mail addresses you gave out on the Forum do work. Rather than get annoyed because somebody does not reply the instant you have posed your question, allow a reasonable period for a reply. You e-mailed me (motorsport@porscheclubgb.com) at 7.01am yesterday morning, but your posting on the Forum suggested that at 21.38 on 28.03.06, you had already been waiting 1 day for a reply - this is not correct. The e-mail addressed to Paul Grainger (trackdays@porscheclubgb.com) arrived at 7.02am this morning. It is now 9.41am on 29.03.06.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]The Club's Motorsport and Track Days are thriving and for this year we are organising three motorsport series and 20 Track Days. You suggest the 'contact page on their webpage (motorsport) is not working and never has', but this is working now and to my certain knowledge has been working continuously. I am sorry if you have had problems accessing this particular page. This, and the contact page on the Club's main website, show both the e-mail addresses for motorsport and track days, plus the relevant telephone numbers, as did the 'Club Contacts' page in Porsche Post up to and including the March issue of Porsche Post.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]We can look into the possibility of running a day at Santa Pod for Porsche Club members. As we have not done this before (although I used to be a great Drag Racing fan and spent much of my 'middle-youth' at Santa Pod) I have no idea of the cost issues (booking and running the day), insurance implications or licence implications for participants. Therefore I would need to investigate further.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Before doing that, I would ask you what you think would be the likely take-up for an exclusive Porsche Club day - assuming Santa Pod are willing to run such a thing ? And, when I ask about likely take-up, I mean people who are willing to pay for such a day and enter, rather than those who feel it is a great idea, but would not participate.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Also, what sort of event do you have in mind ? For example, when we run Track Days, they are totally non-competitive, with no element of timing involved. The purpose of Drag racing is to complete the 1/4 mile (at Santa Pod) in the quickest possible time and I cannot quite see how it would work without timing. However, if it were run with timing, for insurance purposes at least, it would be considered a competitive event. This may impact on how many people would want to participate and may well have implications in terms of competition licensing, and vehicle insurances, as well as Public Liability Insurances.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Ultimately, to be able to justify running an exclusive day - anywhere and any event - it is simply a matter of having enough people commit to the event (pay), to be able to cover the costs at a reasonable per head cost to those participating. If the numbers committing to participate are too low, the per head cost rises and if this happens, the level of interest diminishes further. If the event is run with too few people contributing financially, it loses money for the Club and that is unacceptable and part of what I have to try and avoid with Motorsport and Track Days.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Feel free to post this on the Forum if you wish, but I will not reply via the Forum. If you can let me know what you believe would be the likely numbers of Club members who would want to participate (actually drive, not just spectate) in a day at Santa Pod and I can investigate further.

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Run a Drag Racing day myself based in the 928 section ?
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Let the new CLUB TRACKDAYS sections set it up ?
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Suggestions please ?????
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Costs for a trackday would be as follows....
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Hire SantaPod for the day................£2250 plus VAT
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Track dryer ....................£300 plus fuel plus VAT
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Costs to PCGB members...would work out at around £30 each for 100 members or £60 each for 50 members.....for a whole day...with the track and marshalls and fire crew and ambulance etc etc all thrown in...
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]I will copy this to my 928 section....any questions please reply here or there lol [:D]

Comments would be appreciated :) :)

HI :)

Lol this is getting complicated...here is my answer to Phils question about costs etc in other thread....

ANSWER >>>>>>>>

Hi Phil :)

Yes thats ALL the costs,,I checked with the POD ..

How many runs, depends on the numbers but assuming 50 members...then its roughly 8 runs..taking it as time from Fire road to Pre-stage to Stage to RUN ..to clear track back into fire road...
Each run would get you a TIMING TICKET with Speed and time etc etc...

ONE Problem....if its wet.....the Pod WILL NOT RUN ANY CAR...so no money back...so good weather forecasting is needed lol...any weatherpeople members lol ???

Yes thats the weekday price, as for this year all weekends are already gone....

At the Pod ,spectators are normally free on a day like this....and although ANYONE can run a car with a normal licence...NO passengers allowed...

Hope this helps :)

All the best Brett :)

END ANSWER.........

Phew...

All the best Brett :)

Brett, if you can put up with the supras, fiestas, cosworths etc, then just turning up early to the RWYB days at Santa Pod will give you the opportunity to run your car a few times.

Alternatively the 928Racing list should be at the Pod later in the year with some 'special' 928's and other PCGB 928 owners are welcome to join.

Regards

Hi Honey.....Im HOMEEEE

I have TOTALLY GIVEN UP....the rest of this forum are insane lol...

I am NOT going out there again,,,

I will stay here with the nice people who KNOW a car has 8 cylinders ...

All the best Brett :)

Run what ya brung is probably the best option, Usually run on a Sunday £15 for three runs, three in a day is enough for me usually. You won't have to get huge numbers to commit either, One time I went when I first bought my car (the day after!) there were 6 or 7 928's there plus all the other stuff..[:)]
I'm up for it whatever.[:-]

Hi Dave :)

Going to try to get enough for a Porsche ONLY day first :)

If not may have to rethink.....10 so far so looking hopeful :)

All the best Brett :)

Yes please GO FOR IT...........Sure I will have a few 964RS Boys up for a bit of a burn out........Will post 964RS Forum....

Hi Nicola :)

Pod has no weekends left and other tracks have even less days :)

I dont really want us to do a Run What You Brung as I want a Porsche only social type day..with racing Included :)

All the best Brett :)
