Sat Nav "CD upside down"

Hi all,

I have a 996.2 C4S with sat nav. When I bought the car just over a year ago the sat nav worked but in the next few months it started showing the error message "CD upside down". It has worked intermittently but generally shows the error message. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks

David

Is your car 2002 (PCM1) or 2003-on (PCM2.0)?

The first thing I would do is make a copy of the map CD on a computer, using a good quality CD-R blank disk, writing it at the slowest speed possible (2X or 4X). If that doesn't work, you could try a lens cleaning CD in the PCM.

If those don't work, and if it is PCM1 then it is probably 'beyond economic repair'. If it is PCM2.0 you can replace the CD mechanism. Min Chew (minny) did a great write-up, which you will find in the 996 Technical Articles section.

Thanks Richard,

It is a PCM1, so will try copying the disk as suggested, as the first step.
