hi ppl,

just trying to locate where the sav nav disc unit is located in my cayenne, its the 4.5 v8 2003 model.

in my old 3.2 v6 model it was under the driver seat, had a look there and no joy......

its coming up with sat nav not availible when you first start the car on the main screen and if you try and use the map you get the same error message.

first thought was faulty disc/drive etc.....

any ideas ????

Hi Mike,

I think you will find it lurks in the PCM unit itself.

You had me wondering myself so I went out to the Cayenne, looked under the seat and found a secure storeage box that I didn't know I had !!

I then looked in the side panels of the Boot and it wasn't there either.

Finally I found an eject button on the PCM and out popped the disc !!

Hopefully a quick polish of the disc on your shirt front will cure the problem.

Interesting
Mine came up with the same error
And it did this time last year
I have a suspicion it's to do with the drop in ambient temperature

Mine returns to functional a little while after the car has warmed up, which suggests mechanism rather than disc
Foggy laser lens?

Hi Tony,

thank you for the reply

Its been coming up with the fault since i bought the car a few months back, never really bothered me as i always use a tomtom (find it alot easier and quicker to use)

But i know its a fault i need to put right before i eventually sell it.

I didnt realise the disc went in there, i always thought the front loading disc point on the front of the PCM was for cd's only. Currently been using it for that.

Gather it must be missing the disc then.

Hi Mike,

The slot is generally reserved for the Navigation disc but yes you can play CD's in the same slot.

Most Cayennes have a six disc juke box hidden behind the rear side panel in the boot.Maybe you have one too ?

Have you tried looking for the disc in the front flap of the leather handbook holder ?

Happy hunting looking for about £450's worth of Navigation Disc.[:)]

Hi Kevin,

In the olden days I used to copy Mercedes discs for personal back up and kept the original at home and the copy in the car.

I think they were TeleAtlas CD's but TeleAtlas got wise and introduced some anti copy programme on the later discs (circa 2002)

I have never tried to copy a Porsche navigation disc, but I suspect the same anti copy programme is standard.

I will have a go as I do have some sophisticated Video copy programmes that I have as part of some for Video editing software that I bought.

Hi Mike,

We actually have 2 Cayennes both GTS's and the one I looked in has the latest DVD based touch screen PCM with the data stored on a hard drive in the the head unit. When I pushed the eject button it ejected a music CD, which I thought was the Nav CD, as in the latest cars the head unit incorporates a six disc changer with all of the discs being inserted in the one slot. I am sorry if i have confused you but I am sure that the older Cayennes had a dual facility of Sat Nav & music CD in the same slot.

I have just popped out to get a disc, to see if it will copy, and found that the other Cayenne, which is a fraction older and had the last of the DVD based non touch screen PCM units, has the Navigation disc under the Drivers seat concealed behind a pop off plastic panel.

I am not 100% sure where your Sat Nav Box and disc is located.[&:]

Hi Kevin,

In answer to your question regarding making a 'Back up' disc, it is possible to copy a disc.

I now have a working copy of a 05.2007 disc for PCM 2.1 which is a DVD based European Navigation disc.[:)]

It's not a quick process as there were 1.25 million sections of info to copy.

The second Back up disc is just rolling off the production line in case the first back up gets damaged !

Kevin, I have just re -read your post and I am sorry to say that you cannot copy a disc if you have lost it or damaged it. You must copy them when they are in good condition !!!!

Sorry i did not make that clear what i meant was if my disc
was shot could you do a copy of yours and it would work in mine .
It seems the answer is yes .
I was actually asking as one of my sons copied the UK/Europe
tom tom chip for me and it works in my TT previously i only had UK.
I do not have "built in" in any of the cars ...Cheapscate..
Anyway my wife is a marvellous Map Reader ..well thats what she tells me !
Cheers

I have a full set of discs for your Cayenne Mike, they are the PCM 2.0 and I think there are aronnd six discs in the set (Europe). 2007 discs.

I sold my car around 6 months ago so no longer need them.

PM me if you still need them, and we can do a deal.

Regards,

Tony.

hi

its defiently not under the drivers seat as it was in my old 3.2 v6 model.

and i have the 6 disc changer in the boot part to the side, so i am thinking its got to go in the center pcm disc part.

is my pcm 2.0 or 2.1 ???? its the none touch screen model.

thx for all the replys ppl :)

Its the PCM 2.0 CD not the PCM 2.1 DVD.

I had this system in my 53 plate Carenne Turbo, and the CD goes strait into PCM unit, You can also play Music CD`S in the same slot.

I have just checked, and there are 7 discs in the set (Europe)

Tried the PCM 2.1 disc and that didnt work :(

Just read your last post, i need the PCM 2.0

It came with the sat nav not working, do you think if i went to my local opc, saying i want to buy a pcm 2.0 disc, they woud let me try it just to be on the safe side.
Then if does work can come back to you Tony and buy your set.
