Sat nav for a 996

Hi guys n girls I've got a CD-R 23 in my c4s I was wondering if I could up grade this to a larger head unit with sat nav and phone. Does anyone have details or wiring diagram of what's needed to do this.

You can fit a double-DIN head unit if you move the aircon panel to the bottom position in the centre console. You just need a new trim piece - £3 from Porsche). The cable is long enough to reach.

The snag is the MOST (fibre optic) bus if you have an amplifier. The amp has a fibre optic input (not a line input) so you need replace the amp, or fit an interface. There is a Connects2 interface which converts RCA line outputs from the new head unit to an optical input to the amp.

Also consider the Dynavin head units. They have fibre outputs, and are pretty much plug & play. Cheaper buying them from Germany or Holland, I'm told.

Unfortunately it would seem that there is no Dynavin unit for 996s according to their website which is a shame as they look interesting. Unless one of the two universal units will fit.

I recently fitted a Pioneer AVIC-F77DAB and a new pioneer Amp as my Option 490 amp was shot. I found the head unit at a great price on a one day offer from Halfords for £599 (now £799) and the amp was £110. Had to get a new amp because, as Richard has explained, the originals are fibre optic dependent, I've kept the CDR-23 just in case someone wants to take it back to orginal fit in the future. Ive not changed any of the Option 490 speakers as it all sounds pretty good as it is

Phil Raby hooked me up with a local guy he knows in the Chichester area who provided a new loom and bezels, etc and fitted everything, it took him a whole day but it looks and works great with full post code Sat nav, bluetooth phone, 2 x USB plus charging, Apple car play, DAB and more....

All in all it cost just under £1100 inc the head unit, amp, cables/loom, fixings/bezels, fully fitted, configured and tested...and I've now got a top of the range, all singing and dancing AV set up that looks pretty good too and not out of place. Purists may not agree but its nice to have an up to date system as I drive the car a lot and like my spotify and music library in the car plus listening to the radio in DAB rather than the crackly old FM/AM reception is a god send

Happy to share details/pictures if you want me to..

Well guys definitely put my head in a spin. I like the look of the becker head units only because I'm trying to kept original look. Firstly are these units any good sat nav wise and of cause sound. And if I found one a fair price like Richard says I would have to move the heater and air c to the lower section. What else would I have to purchase for sat nav and phone seeing as like I said I only have the cdr23 and x6 cd changer in boot

Thank you costelles that looks very smart. I still can't get to load any images so many ways . And that does your phone as well?

I really like the look what make again and model. Did it all just plug in or did you have to retire a plug etc
