sat nav question

I need to use a TomTom 710 a lot during the week .

I fix it to the centre of the windscreen and it rests at an odd angle on the dialpod so its very conspicuous.

Every time I stop I have to remove the satnav from the screen and hide it under the seat.

Where do you all fix your satnavs ?

Mines in the glove box,its called an AtoZ !!

On the windscreen whilst driving. In my pocket when out of the car.

Keep some of those 'wet-wipes' in the car to remove the tell tale ring mark off the windscreen. Apparently that is one of the things the thieving toe-rags look for. Most people just put their sat navs in the glovebox rather than removing it from the car.

Cheers,

Just ordered one of these, it's a slightly cheaper version of the Brodit type. Just screw/bolt a std mount to it.

point is when they are fixed on show they are more likely to be pinched . Any fixing mounts or charge cables are a dead giveaway there is a satnav in the car.

what type do you use Fred that you can fit the satnav and the mount into a pocket ?

My Tom Tom is always removed from the vehicle and I use a camera case to put it in(with me)
Always wipe the screen of its sucker mark too[;)]

Ah, but if your sat nav is also your PDA and phone then all you need is a mobile phone mount and the chance of it getting nicked from the car is zero!

Nick,
The mount goes into the glove box or stashed out of the way. The Sat Nav slips into the pocket. Unless I've got my Shop-lifter's coat on that has massive deep pockets hidden away but then putting in one of those gives me less room for shopping[:D].

thats true Chris but I am not concerned unduly with having the satnav nicked its only a couple of hundred quid its the inconvenience and expense of having one of your windows broken by a brick because some thieving towrag
THINKS that you might have a satnav/XDA in the car because of the tell-tales.

I would really like to build my satnav into the car permantly but I can't find a suitable position.

I rarely look at the screen once set and am happy to follow spoken commands but there are times when you want to know the next command coming up and need to prod the screen . I am concerned that if I position the satnav too low or off to the left somewhere I might be distracted and have a crash .

The ideal place would be where the heater grille is in the centre but I couldn't do without my heater Brrrrrrr.

Anyone any suggestions ? I did think of cutting and dropping it into the top of the dash like a pop -up pod which would be great but might make a bit of a mess of the dash if not done professionally.
