Sat nav/stereo upgrade

I've looked at a late 03 boxster that has nav and Bose. I was wondering how easy it is to upgrade the unit, it seems to sound ok but the satnav bit is pants !!!

Your car is almost certain to have the MOST optical bus, meaning its a bit more work to upgrade things. A new head unit would not be compatible with the amp, so you'd have to replace both. And Bose speakers are extremely low impedance, so you would have to make certain the new amp would work with them. If not, you'd have to change the speakers too.

Having said all that, there are a few guys on the BoXa.net forum who have done exactly that. Its a fair amount of work, and not exactly cheap, but a new head unit will give you far more functionality than even the most recent PCM - including full post code search, more easily updated maps, DAB radio, even facility for a reversing camera.
