Anyone out there a wizz with the PCM system?
I've got one of the old (CD ROM) versions in my 04 plate Boxster S. It won't load the sat nav software.
The disks have been tested in another vehicle and are ok.
The CD player function of the PCM will work on an audio CD, but plays the CD with very poor sound quiality and a lot of "white noise".
This leads me to the possibility of a problem with the reader part of the CD drive. Possibly a loose connection, a dirty lens, or laser malallignment.
The PCM is not covered by the extended warrantee, and all Porsche want to do is take the defective one out and drop in another - at a cost of about £1200.
This seems crazy for such a potentially minor problem.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Or do you know of someone who may be able to help? I'm based in South Wales and Gloucestershire
I'm up for having a go at fixing it - as if I damage the thing I need a new one anyway - but I'm not sure how to get it out the dash safely?
Advice anyone?
