Satnav & Ipod

Have searched but cant find the answers, so any help appreciated.

Have seen a nice C2S cab, which I am interested in. Unfortunately it does not have Satnav, it has the screen for it and the seller did say it can be retro fitted. Is this the case? It is an 05 model if that makes any difference.

Also how easy is it to fit an Ipod to the system?

Thanks for any help.

I think the Satnav is around a £1500 retrofit and, quite honestly, it isn't that good. No full postcode search for starters. If the car is that good in other respects personally I would put a much cheaper and better Tom Tom or Garmin in it - not as asthetically pleasing but if you don't mind the wires.......

I think there are a number of iPod solutions - Google is probably a good starting point![;)] See also this thread

Or swap out the head unit completely and put in a system that has properly/cheaply up-datable sat nav and native MP3 playback/connections.

FWIW I have a Dension 500 with my PCM2.

Kenwood, or Pioneer seem to be the main contenders. The OEM porsche nav uses a backlit screen thats easy to see in all light conditions. Some of the cheaper nav systems use a weaker LED screen that can be nigh on impossible to see in direct sunlight. The porsche system also includes an arrow display on the instrument cluster , and spoken instructions over the car sound system , so allows you to be away from the nav screen and still have a count down and indication of pending turns. I agree the OEM porsche system has its pitfalls and the nav updates are expensive and infrequent ,but having returned from a 4500 mile tour of Europe I was reminded how useable and invaluable the system is , particularly with its dynamic navigation which avoids traffic incidents. If you dont plan to drive any significant distance , the navi is an expensive upgrade, if you do long distances or continental touring , the cheapest option is to buy a used DVD drive and retro fit yourself. This would work out about 400 pounds if you were happy to have a used map disc from e bay rather than new one from porsche. There are some very good DIY install write ups on www.boxa.net and www.caymanclub.net which apply to the 911 as it uses the same hardware and position of equipment.
