Satnav - missing postcode characters

Folks,
I noticed on a recent trip that I'm not able to enter the full seven character postcode. The last two character positions are visible but will not accept input so I can get roughly to my destination based on the first five characters but not to my exact destination.

I recently had a key replaced and so some re-programming was required, after which I lost the cruise control facility, which is now fixed, but I'm left wondering if the satnav issue is related to what's gone on before. (I'm sure it was working fine before the key replacement).

Car is 997 C4GTS PDK 2012

I've contacted the OPC and await their response, but thought I would post here also in case it's a known issue.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi,
There was an update to the PCM 3 Sat Nav I think around late 2013 which resolved the missing postcode digits. It added some other functionality too. At the time it was a bargain price of £150... (prior to that it was something like £500).

I thought the graphics were slightly more blocky, but that was outweighed by the gains in functionality (I got it).
Hope this helps
Jo

If I remember correctly, full 7 digit post code facility was introduced in 2013 and the upgrade was available for about 9 months for £150. The OP's 2012 car may well have received that upgrade? BUT if a full reset is done to the PCM during the reprograming mentioned then that upgrade would have been lost (great system!). The bad news is Porsche will charge for it all over again as it was a one time upgrade using factory code via PIWIS. The current upgrade price for map data, last time I enquired is about £340+VAT. So the question is, did the OPC cock up? If so, stump up for their error.

Thanks Folks for your input/suggestions, most helpful.
I will check to see if the update was applied and take it from there.

Hi Paul,
You can verify your PCM version by switching on the ignition and screen and pressing Source & Info buttons simultaneously. You should get a version starting with a 3, if it's 2 point something, it will need upgrading.
You can read the full upgrade topic here https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=779064 (obtained from the Register's Technical Articles section)
Unfortunately, the illustrations are missing due to the recent change in Photobucket's policy, but if you need them, let me know and I will transfer them to an alternative hosting site.
Regards,

Clive

Thanks Clive.

I have system v 2.21 and PCM 3.0 so looks like my system needs an upgrade to get the full seven character postcode.

That's right Geoff. I've asked the OPC I bought from (different to my local OPC) if they can check their records to see if an upgrade was applied prior to my ownership (and to check my sanity is still intact!)
Keep you posted.

Well, it looks like a senior moment on my part. Moving from a gen 1 C4S (with no postcode entry) to the GTS with partial postcode entry must have seemed like a giant step forward at the time. The OPC I purchased from has confirmed as follows:

"The current PCM will only take 5 digits however if you wanted this to be updated it would be £180.00 + vat for the part and 1 hours labour at £145.00+ vat."

So the figure is very close to what Geoff quoted earlier, £325 +vat for the upgrade - I'll have to think about that!

Thanks for your help and interest.

Personally, Paul, I would save your money. It's still rubbish with 7 digits! At my previous address the postcode in the sat nav wanted to take me about 3 miles from where I lived! The only reliable way I have found to get it to take you to the right place is to select the point on the map and then navigate to that point.

One of the penalties for living in the sticks - 1 postcode covering several square miles.
Personally, I found the upgrade worthwhile.
Regards,
Clive

I found upgrade worthwhile for features but mapping data still hopelessly out of date. Mine was done for the £150 "deal" but definitely wouldn't pay current price.

The postcode in question covered about 6 properties all within a few hundred metres! It wasn't even showing in the correct county! There are other features that come with the upgrade but still not convinced it's worth the cost of a very expensive Tom Tom or Garmin! As I recall ours were done for £150, not £350?
