Satnav

Just back from sunny South of France and had occasion to use a nice little piece of software called NAVFREE on my ipad.

Once loaded it doesn't need an internet connection nor a phone connection, relying on GPS and whatever other gubbins is in the ipad.
Works quickly and accurately and I'm considering buying a little tablet thing just for that software to replace the cr*p satnav in the 911.

It's also available on android. Other similar software is of course available, and I'm not associated with any of it.

Thought I'd pass it on.

I'm also just back from the south of france and did similar and ditched the aging tomtom and just relied on my android phone - it was great, although I paid for data as it was relatively cheap in europe (£10 got me 50Mb which was way more than enough to do all my sat nav needs for 10 days) and had the benefit of live traffic etc....although the british text to speech pronunciation of some of the french street names was extremely comical....

Hi Greg, it was good to bump into you. World's a small place.

I'm stuck with Vodafone for my UK data and they're viciously expensive over there. When in F I usually work on the ubiquitous and fast wifi but in the car that's not so practical.
I was really impressed by this software, particularly the turn by turn directions which were very quick, rather than the Porsche item which tells you about the junction about 10 miles past it.
Similar to what you say some pronunciations were a bit strange but I could cope with that.
