SatNavUpgrade

Posted on the 991 Forum, but know a lot of you will be interested in this too.

I've just had notification that the long awaited official satnav upgrade has been announced for all MY09 cars onwards.

This update will allow customers with older PCM systems featuring 5-digit postcode address entry to upgrade to 7-digit entry.
In addition it will provide the latest 2013 road map data allowing for more accurate navigation.

This is good news and at a RRP of £149 incl. VAT is considerably less than some OPCs have been charging for the postcode only update. The map upgrade alone has been a pricey option in the past. So book your car in before they change their minds!

I have heard that after the upgrade, the screen resolution gets worse, due to the smaller pixels not being able to resolve properly on the old screen.
does anyone else know if this is correct?
cheers

No one has had the official upgrade yet as the disk is not released until next Monday. Where is your info from?

Both Clive and I have had this done. The screen resolution doesn't appear to have changed. There is now a 7 digit postcode input but depending on where it is it's not always that accurate. My postcode, for example, because I'm not on a road with a name, takes me to a point about 2 miles away! I will have to check with my PC that they did the map upgrade when they did the other stuff - that could be why some of the postcodes are rubbish?

Edit - just read your post above Peter - so they obviously haven't done the map update!!

No, not correct. The screen resolution is fine.

I understand Alan's frustration with rural postcodes, but honestly it's no worse than the top of the range Pioneer system I have in another vehicle. In the country, a single postcode can cover quite a large area. I've no idea why a £120 Garmin performs much better in this.
Regards,

Clive.

forget my previous post, I've just spoken to Exeter and they say there is no difference to the screen.
cheers
