saw this today. what u experts make of it??

Looks very nice, and i like it in Red, how many owners? I am surpriced you havent bought it/.

Phil

The car has been sprayed but im told theres no reason to suggest its been pranged. I did funnily enough ask that question and as an independant paul stephens are well regarded so i dont automatically think there are any lies involved. its done 70k miles. Question is is it value for money?

on that basis it is pricey but that said its well sorted before i wud buy it. I guess i cud end up buying another car that needs 3k spent on it

If you like the car, go for it but you wont persuade me that its not top money for what it is.

You could be in this for less than twenty with a good haggle after a PPI.

Yeah i spotted that one before. Its got slightly more miles and its not warrantied and the red i do prefer but as u say price wise its expensive. My justification for the money is that it will trade level with my 997 if i hang onto that although i appreciate thats not justification in itself to pay the wrong price for the 993.
Can someone explain the difference in the Varioram engine apart from it being slightly up on horsepower and if its more a desirable option? tks

The general suggestion is that the extra bhp makes no real difference to value or performance. MAtter of opinion thou i guess

Is it me or does the boot lid not appear to line up evenly?

I share your concern about the front luggage compartment lid.

On the right hand side as you view it, the lid appears to stand proud of the front PU. I would guess this is due to a front N/S impact. How hard, it is hard to say, but these are tough cars, and I would guess it was a fairly sharp impact. It is very difficult to get everything to line up perfectly afterwards, and some bodyshops wouldn't bother too much. Possibly the car has rear ended another vehicle at some point in its life.

Would this put me off ? Not necessarily, but I would want to check everything out very thoroughly, and not pay top money. Very important to check chassis rails in the boot /for creasing, respray, alignment issues - the list goes on. Hopefully the bumper absorbed most of the impact but you must check.

Would a standard HPI check note anything i should be aware of? Also wouldnt this be pointed out by Paul Stephens and me made aware of it given they are experst in their field and a respected Specialist

I would just ask the vendor the question, and see what the response is. Hopefully they can put your mind at ease. HPI would certainly show if it was an insurance write off, but not, I suspect, every claim it has been involved with. Again, this is probably a question you should ask HPI.

Ok tks Mark. Ill pay for the online HPI and see what that comes back with although as you say not everything the car may have had done is necessarily listed with HPI. Paul Stephens have a good reputation within this club so im sure they would be upfront. Also i thought it illegal to sell a car as a dealer without pointing out accident damage if asked. Could be wrong on that though. I have a pal that would check it all over for body repairs if i buy it that would give me an honest opinion which id stipulate at the point of buying it. Tks for the tips

Not the BHP you should be looking for in the Varioram (as you say the difference is small).

The difference is the shape of the torque curve. Loads more delivered torque way down the rev counter. You have to drive one of each to see the difference in practical driving situations. To a track driver it makes little difference because you tend to be up near the red line - on the road is where you see the difference.

Ah verfy helpfull tks. The one i drove seemed to pull well although in comparisson to my 997s they will both feel somewhat slower i guess

David

Red is definitely the colour to go for. Far too many silver ones about !!

The wheels look a little awkward to me?
They don't look Geniune Porsche, I suspect they're replicas. The offset on the rears dosen't look right when compared with Sam's car in the thread : http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=531143

On narrow bodied cars with Turbo Twists fitted, it's probably an optical illusion, but it looks like the rear wheels sit forwards in the arches! It just looks odd, I've not noticed the same effect on 17" Cup 2's [8|]
