Saying Goodbye

Hilly

New member
Sorry to say the dreadful deed is done and the 996 goes on Friday to be replaced by a BMW420 Grand Coupe.

I just did some quick costs and figured out the Porsche cost me 2500 per year in depreciation and maintenance. Incredible value and I will definitely get another one when i have more time to drive it and the 6ft tall son gets his own car.

Buying a replacement car was probably the worst experience I had in recent years.

Audi Sheffield.. Youthfull salesman tells me no one can afford to run a Porsche and is uninterested in trying to find an alternative as the car I went to see is sold. Unless you are buying a new car your 30k is of little interest and apparently the Porsche is worthless. (nice as it is a JCT dealership)

Audi Wakefield... Rust on the door of a 38K 2 year old A8. Apparently I have unrealistic expectations that the car would be rust free and clean[..... Worst valet I have seen in my life, Tescos do better.

BMW in Chesterfield didnt want to sell me a 6 series as none of the 3 on site would start even with a boost. So since they had not met their 7 series target only wanted me to have their demo 7 series that had lost 30K from new in 9 months !!!! Ouch

Only BMW Sheffield did a good job. Listened, offered decent money for the Porsche, suggested different models in stock and left us to decide. They then negotiated in good faith

Lesson learned. Only talk to car salesmen over 40 as the others represent all the cliches that give professional sales people a bad name.

Sad to be leaving and am sure I will wake up on Friday wondering why I sold her. In truth, the last service presented a growing to do list that would ruin the previous 6 years of cheap fun motoring.
