SC Brake Upgrade

What options have people used to upgrade the brakes on their SC?
I've had a price on new calipers all round and 300mm front disks, but at £2300 inc vat I think these may be out of budget.

My SC is being backdated to a pre 73, will weigh just under 1000 kg, 220 bhp and wearing 15" Fuchs.

Will a calipers refurb and new decent pads be sufficient? Car will not be used on track, just enthusiastic road use where conditions allow.

Thanks in advance

Standard brakes in good condition work fine on the road.

If the car only weights 1,000kg (a very ambitious target in practice for a road car, I know because one of mine is down to 1,040kg!), it is a more or less 20% weight reduction which almost directly equals a 20% improvement in braking performance.

Hi Mark
Thanks for this. Pretty sure now that I will get the calipers re-furbed and fit braided lines etc and keep the brakes standard. The car is stripped out completely, no insulation, no heating, RS headers (no heat exchangers), lightweight carpet, aluminium decklid, RS door panels, lightweight RS seats (7kg ea), no back seats, as it is backdated no bumpers etc. I'm hoping it's going to be close to or just below the 1000 kg mark. Would be interested to know how this compares with what you have done to get yours down to 1040kg?
cheers

I have done much of the same stuff as you have, but mine is not backdated and is not even an SC! My SC is pretty much standard, it is my early 3.2 that I have lightened. It has fibreglass bumpers and engine cover, carbon fibre front bonnet, rear seat delete, very little sound deadening, RS door cards, light weight carpeting, radio delete and etc. I have retained backdated heating (heat is needed in this country even in a track focused car!) and it still has electric windows and sunroof (which will be removed eventually).

My weight is an actual measurement from a weighbridge with half a tank of petrol. There are an awful lot of wild low weight claims out there from people who have never weighed their cars and have just made a calculation from what has been removed and the published weights for the standard car. The published standard weights were for the very basic models and in reality most cars are significantly heavier with the options they came with.
