[8|] not long had my sc_ ignition light stays on most of the time & seems linked to the BRAKE warning light which shines to the same intensity - battery remains charged so the alternator is working___any ideas ??

Sounds like you have a short to ground in that circuit Tad if the battery is staying charged. But try all these before removing the alernator.
Check the adjustment of the fan belt also it's condition , if it is shiny on the inside replace it, tighten to about 1/2"-3/4" with the tool kit special tool and the shims.
Check the engine ground strap, this causes all sorts of problems, if you can put a meter on the battery and with the engine at a high idle it should read 12-14 volts approx. If the regulator has failed you may get the symptoms you describe but if you run the car with a failed regulator the battery may overcharge and cook it completely, so keep an eye on it.
If the warning light brightens as you rev the engine that is a sign the alternator or regulator are toast. I don't think the problem will be at the clocks so the next step might have to be removing the alternator , it could have worn bushings or a faulty diode, if you are taking it out you might as well have it checked by a reputable auto -electrician.

Unfortuneately you will have to remove the fan belt then the fan to get at the alternator, mark your connections when you remove it. I've probably forgotten something but that should get you started.
Can't explain the brake warning light switch are they working OK is the master cylinder topped up?
