SC LHD Prices

Just after some advice, I'm thinking of selling my 83 Targa which I've had seven happy years with to replace with a Coupe.

Its in great condition with full engine rebuild 6 years ago and full service history since. Respray 10 years ago. Total mileage is 114,000 (185,000kms)

I was wondering what kind of price I should put on the car as I understand a lot of dealers from the Continent are buying from the UK as the Euro is in their favour.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Well,

having just sold my SC via Switserland to Germany and a Carrera 3 sportomatic to Belgium, I suppose I can speak of my experience.

Firstly, dealers and informed private buyers are buying in the UK because UK prices are cheap in comparison to Euro equivalents with an exchange rate of 1.14 average in the last few months.

So a mint LHD SC high compression 204 bhp targa, which, it has to be said, does not come with mille miglia replica cup alloys but with a period correct set of fuchs wheels or ATS cookie cutters, history, service manual and all the rest of it, virtually no rust and in very good condition will make in France/Belgium and Holland approximately 14000 to 17000 euros, in Germany this car might make 19000 euros.

Now, factor in the cost of preparation (full service, a spruce up for stone chips and blabla so £1000 ) + the costs of transporting the thing over (say London-Munich = £800), the price has to be sufficiently attractive for a dealer wanting to go out and buy your car and have some profit left.

My rule of thumb is: look at what similar cars like yours are making on www.mobile.de and www.autoscout24.be (or any european extension you can think of: es, de, nl. fr etc) and allow some dealer profit or a sufficiently reason for a damn good trip for an enthusiast from Finland/Denmark/Sweden/Lituania/Poland/France/a dutchman in Spain and your car won't be here for long. Do bear in mind that if it comes with an arms long list out of a pre purchase inspection by a UK specialist, that you either are taking a serious hit in price or you wont have the sale. There are porsche forums in each country and your advert will be discussed and dissected.

A good start is to advertise is here on the forum, pistonheads and 911UK.

Good luck with your project,

Bert
