SC Running Reports

I have an idea for the SC forum (others can copy us if they wish). I would like some feedback on the idea of setting up a 'Running Reports' section where SC owners describe what they have been doing with, to, in their cars. The individual threads could be updated by the owner as they wished , daily , weekly , monthly , tri-monthly whatever suits. Many people are finding that the earlier Porsches are now a ffordable so these running reports would provide new owners with a chance to assess the pleasures, pitfalls and costs of SC ownership on a daily basis. The idea was a success in '911 & Porsche World' where Richard Long from the GT3 forum made a really interesting contribution to the mag' with details of his upgrades.
If there is enough interest I will volunteer to start with a brief history but then it will be day to day stuff including my current gearbox backdate and engine 'refresh'.
If there is a technical problem with the site we may have to wait till the new individual 'satellite' register sites are under way.

cool idea, count me in Bones, have been taking mine apart all day cleaning it and making up a shopping list

hi bones, hope all is ok. i have not been on for a few months (been moving and all) last time i was on you were looking for space so you could repair your gearbox problem. i think that the running reports would be a fantastic idea as i also agreed that your idea of buddy spanner, i think that was what it was, was a good idea. i read that 911 & porsche world are dropping the problem page which i think was an intrestting read. i wish they would keep it.
good luk with the reports and i will write up each time i do any thing on mine.

steve

ps. most of the things i do is clean mine as i put it in the concours at eynsham last year and am doing as many as possible this year

Hi Bones,

That would be a great idea! I seem to be spending money like water at the moment, every time I fix a problem, something else seems to fall off or fail, it would be nice to share my experiences with others and get advice or ideas for common problems, where the best place for parts are etc... I look forward to hearing more.

Bones

I'd be pleased to come in on this as well, as there seems to be no shortage of things needed on my car.

Look forward to hearing more in due course...

Good start!

Thanks for the favourable response, there are enough of us to make this interesting I'll speak to HQ and see how best to implement this , I'm thinking a list will appear under the heading SC Running Reports and users can brouse the articles and add to it as they wish.

Count me in as well. I have got some information on the B post panels from Bert Berlyn and will be having a look at getting this job done soon. When I get hold of my son I will post some pictures of the offending parts and some more as the job progresses.
it would be nice to get a bit of info going around as most of us would love to save some money by not putting our cars into the "experts" with their prices all the time.

Excellent idea Bones!
Count me in too. I was just saying to my other half over Easter that i'd love to get more involved in the club in some way or other.

I think it was while watching Fred Dibnah dig a 100ft mine shaft in his garden with his old mates. It made me wonder which of my mates would offer their help if I decided to pull the engine out of the SC one weekend - sadly, i think, none of them. Lack of moral, technical or 'spanner buddy' support from my friends kind of puts on hold any plans to build a mad Kremer 935 lookalike or outlaw a dead 356.

I suppose my mates are all too busy buying their kids new toys - while I'm too busy thinking of excuses to play with my old ones.

So, my pledge from now onwards is to try and be more active on here - or any other 'Rebel SC' site which may arrive in the future. Please hold me to that...

Looking forward to trying to remember what I've done over four and a half years of ownership of my SC for my running report!

I can relate to that. :ROFLMAO:

I've roped the wife into some two man jobs before (brake bleeding etc..) but theres allways a nagging doubt that she dosent appreciate the education.

lol......but this is exasctly the reason I've in the past suggested 'Porsche buddies'. Here's how it works a member has 1-5 spanner icons placed next to their avatar and in the Members list. We can refine the grading as we go along but to start with 5 spanners equals a spanner weilding hero and 1 would be someone who might have enthusiasm but wants to learn or has facilities only. Members could ring people on the list as they would know that they are people who are really interested in helping out in whatever way. Also a member using this service would out of courtesy offer to meet the 'Porsche buddies' travelling costs and keep them nourished with an a la carte menu and fine wines...just joking but I hope this illustrates the idea.
It could be announced in Porsche Posat and there could be a duplicate 'Buddies' list there, members could be persuaded to visit here and leave their details on line. That way they have a positive reason for paying a visit if they are a little reluctant.

Secondly we should in my humble opinion own as a car club own a lot more equipment. ie engine stands , jacks , the big stuff as spanners will go missing but special Porsche tools should be obtained too. We could invent a scheme where members who didn't return equipment were publicly humiliated in specially constructed Porsche stocks we could throw old oil and air filters at them..... madness aside what does everyome think are these ideas goers?
I'm going to run this as a seperate post and then it will be seen by more online users so it's not a mistake when you see it again.
